Guest guest
well apria healthcare just delivered the thyrogen to my house. ( wierd huh?) I was surprised, and a bit upset,i was like why the heck does it have to be delivered to my house? Why doesn't the dr. ofice just get it? I still really don't know why. The Apria guy said sometimes the insurance companies do not like to deliver them to the dr, cause they mysterously get " lost " and this way the patient is responsible... Also a privacy thing? i don't know just seems wierd to me. The dr. office told me to call them when i got it, and I have to go in on a monday morn get the injection, then go in on a tuesday morn get an injection, then go to a lab and get a blood test on friday. is this a normal proceedure? wjat will the blood test tell me? if I have any thyroid tissue in my body? I had a very small nodule, it ws pap cancer, but it was contained and capsuled. So the Endo thinks i am very very low risk for anything coming back.. basically said i am a surgical cure..However, he wants me to do this thyrogen. i said Ok.. I then asked if i need to do the WBS he said no, only if this test comes back showing some thyroid tissie? I know i have read on here before that unless i have a few clean scans i should not just do the thyrogen without the scan, so why is my endo saying it is ok? I asked him 2 times, he said your very low risk, there is NO reason to do the WBS unless we see something with this test..... what do you think? And should i expect any wierd side effects to the thyrogen? JODI
Guest guest
Im new and I was wonder what thyrogen was and why you would use it. I looked it up on the internet and it said it was used for people with thyroid cancer that wanted to become or are pregnant or breast feeding. Im breast feeding and just had a TT done last Saturday and just realized I have cancer Today. I have not met with the Endo yet and I dont want to go through the RAI, its seems scarey. yuly TT 6/14/03 2.5 Papillary and follicular mixed ? about thyrogen well apria healthcare just delivered the thyrogen to my house. I was surprised, and a bit upset,i was like why the heck > does it have to be delivered to my house? Why doesn't the dr. ofice > just get it? I still really don't know why. This is the probably the best way to obtain Thyrogen, both costwise and efficiency wise. I used my home delivery option thru my prescription drug insurance (Merck-Medco) both last year and this year and my total cost was $30 each time. To obtain via the pharmacy, my cost would have been over $200 (Thyrogen costs roughly $1000 and I have an 80%/20% policy). > The dr. office told me to call them when i got it, and I have > to go in on a monday morn get the injection, then go in on > a tuesday morn get an injection, then go to a lab and get a > blood test on friday. is this a normal proceedure? > wjat will the blood test tell me? if I have any thyroid tissue > in my body? Keep the Thyrogen refrigerated. You are not having a scan, right? (If you were having a scan, the procedure would be similiar except you would take a dose of RAI on Wed. and scan on Friday and need to do LID for 2 weeks prior). Your Dr. is doing bloodwork to obtain an unsuppressed Tg reading. This is normal follow-up. Some folks also have a scan (I do), but some only have the Tg testing. > I had a very small nodule, it ws pap cancer, but it was > contained and capsuled. Obviously your Dr. thinks you are so low risk, there is no need to go thru LID and the expense of a scan, so he is relying on Tg testing only. If your Tg does come back elevated, you might have to go hypo for a scan and treatment at that point (treatment should be done while hypo anyway). You can find out more about Thyrogen on the website at www.genzyme.com Download the Patient Information Kit (a PDF file). Marilyn Dx in 1994, papillary w/follicular variant and lung metastases. Positive scans in '94,'95,'96,'97,'98. 435mCi's RAI. Clean scans '99,'00,'02...the last one using Thyrogen. Next Thyrogen scan in July.
