Guest guest
Once again I find a thread connecting me to this group! I suffered an attack of DIC in late 1998 and that prompted extra bloodwork to check platelet count and quality. Both were low and the plasmaphoresis and chemo was stopped and I was given Vitamin K, platelets and an old standby for bleeding but I can't remember the name. A year later excessive bleeding requiring 3 transfusions again brought investigations and an MRI of my liver. It is said to be fatty and grossly enlarged...the right flank pain I had suffered for years with, is my liver rubbing against my lower ribs. All lipid tests are normal or low. It was thought the fatty issue was a result of the prednisone but now I wonder. I still have bleeding problems like an almost continual nosebleed today. Guest guest
I take otc Vitamin K supplements, and it has helped decrease my bleeding issues. The nice thing about Vitamin K is that it works both ways - your body uses it to decrease clotting *and* help clotting, depending on the situation. But still anyone on coumadin or so on shouldn't take it. Take care, RH > Debra > > Liver problems and bleeding problems can be due to mito. They can also be > due to other things as well. Guest guest
Hi RH, I had known vit K would " thin " your blood, but I didn't know it also could help increase clotting as well. Of course, you can get vit K in green leafy veggies too. I have been able to tolerate a green drink in the past, although right now I am not trying it. My platelets have been a little low, but not out of normal range. If you have a juicer, kale juice with celery is a healthy drink to have. Just once a day is a great boost.
