Sheila, I know they say you should always exercise in shoes but I have

always wondered about this since man didn't really WEAR shoes for thousands

of years and got along just fine. I do put on shoes when I do a video but

often only wear soft shoes when doing the bicycle (inside) or the Gazelle

freestyle and sometimes do exercise in bare feet. I have never " injured

my feet " although I've been exercising like this for over 10 years (daily).

In my experience, most foot problems I've seen come from wearing shoes like

heels etc for long periods and NOT from being barefoot, exercising or not.

I have walked barefoot around the house pretty much all my life and have

pretty nice looking feet for an old bag (almost 60). My mother wore shoes

most of the time and had a couple of hammer toes etc. I think, at least,

there might be, a strong case supporting the idea of walking barefoot (and

exercising barefoot).

Sara, I feel (for what it's worth) that exercise is the closest thing to the

fountain of youth we have. When you are working out daily, you feel better,

you look better even IF you are larger, you heal better, you get less colds

and they go away faster, you fall less, you strengthen your bones, you cut

down your chances of cancer by 40 percent, you cut down your chances of

heart attack by 40 percent and many more things.

Just a thought,

Sue

I don't wear shoes when doing my videos. My problem is I have extremely wide

feet and getting a good fit is next to impossible. I'd rather exercise barefoot

than get blisters, have shoe arches that don't meet with my natural arches,

(that's painful!), etc. I also have to buy a half size up to fit the width of

my foot, and that makes for a lot of slipping in the heel because shoes are too

long. I find that more unsafe than exercising barefoot.

My cousin just had toe surgery, and I guess I do realize appreciate what it is

like to have problems, albeit not first hand. But until the shoe fairy makes

shoes that will *fit* my feet well, I will continue to go barefoot.

I am envious of people that can wear many types of shoes. If I could, I'd be a

shoe hoarder.
