Hi everyone,

Probably alot of you don't know who I am, but I use to be a member of

this list. I am now only on the post-ops lists, but I remember how

important it was to me to hear from post-ops so I thought I would

write each month and tell you how it is going.

I had Ds surgery on Jan.12--Dr. Ren did my surgery. I have

gotten great care with Dr. Ren and her staff. I have had no

complications and my weight loss is very good.

In the first month, I did have a lot of mild to moderate nausau

(never enough to make me throw up)--that has subsided. I still get

nausaus sometimes, but now it is only once or twice a week.

At three weeks, I was given more food options. I did find that

sometimes--especially when I come home from a busy day and I am

hungry I will eat to fast and than feel bad--real bad. I have tried

to stop this problem by forcing myself to take a break after 3 or 4

bites to moniter how my food is doing. It is weird in my month

everything feels fine--it is when I swollow it and a few minutes pass

that I realize I ate to much. So far-- for me--after surgery--the

margin for error is much less. Before surgery if I ate too much I

would almost feel " full--hungry " like I could just go on eating. Now

if I have just a little too much I get a " full--can I get rid of this

stuff feeling. " I do find that this bad feeling last less long the

further I am post-op. At first it last for hours--now about 1/2 an

hour. Still I will be happy if this stops happening or I learn that

it is better not to take the extra fork full.

My strength is much better--each week I can feel how much I have

improved. I tutor children--so it is easy for me to gage how much

better I feel with each child each week. Today I walked over two

miles in about the time it took me to walk that distance pre-op. I

can't say I feel as well as I did before surgery, but I feel I am

getting there. Before surgery I walked about 15 miles a week--and I

am not there--yet.

I know people worry abou this so: Mostly my bowel movement and

gas are no more smelly than before (part of the reason for this is

that I am taking Devron). I don't have much gas, very little

cramping, and no runs--if anything I think I tend to be constipated!.

I am trying to be careful and not irritate my hemorroids. I don't

have bowel movements daily.

I can eat most things, but some things don't feel as

comfortable. I take Dairy Care and culturelle and so I am not

lactose intolerant (I might be but these two pills work for me--in a

few months I am going to see if I can have milk without them). I can

have fat, and my body really likes hamburgers and rice. It is weird

I am not a cheese burger lover, but I get the Mcs small double

cheeseburger for the extra calcium--and it goes down very easily.

So things are getting better and better. Would I want to feel

exactly the way I do now forever--no, I am not 100% yet, but there

are moments when I say--yes--this feels great. I also feel I worked

very hard before surgery to try to lose weight or at least not gain

more. Even though I don't always feel great, I do feel that this is

much easier. The whole eating thing is easier. For me the issue is

now, get protein and eat when I can. Well. If you have any questions

or responses you can e-mail me at the above address. If you write to

this list, I will not be able to read it. Since there are so few

people on this list who have had surgery with Dr. Ren, if you have

any questions about her or know people who do I am happy to answer

them. Just e-mail me privately. I would like to know if this is

useful. Thanks,

Dbbr (Deborah)
