Guest guest
I know this has been asked time and time again, but can you just confirm... RAI kills thyroid tissue, whether it is normal or malignant. OR RAI kills normal thyroid tissue that may turn cancerous later on If the first statement is true, why are you saying to that it won't kill the lymph node tumours - is it just because of their size? does RAI only manage to kill of the one-or-two cells clusters? Sorry to repeat Sue PT March 03 TT May 03 awaiting RAI > > > Hello, Group! > > > > Boy am I confused, frustrated, angry, and just grrrrrrrrr! I have finally started actually dealing with having cancer and accepting my scar, then I got a wrench thrown at me...Thursday I went to Portsmouth, VA to have a consult with the doctor who will be doing my RAI. When he examined my neck, he felt a lump by my right tonsil. He had me go have a full neck ultra sound and sure enough, it is 3 lymph nodes fused together, for a measurement of 3.2 cm. And the US also showed a lymph node on the left side of my neck (by my tonsil) that is 1.7 cm in size. The doc said that he wants those removed before he does the ablation, because they are indicative of papillary carcinoma and the RAI won't completely kill them. So I left there feeling confused...and 4 hours to drive and ponder on having surgery again so soon. > > > > I called my ENT (who diagnosed me in the first place and performed the surgery) first thing Friday morning and he didn't seem to clear things up...I think because he was a bit confused himself about it. So I was wondering if all of this sounded right to you guys, to have cancerous cells all the way up there. I guess it is possible, but something just isn't sitting right with me about it. My ENT wants to examine me himself, of course, and probably do an FNA on the largest mass. Have any of you had a similar situation? Or any suggestions? And is it possible for this type of cancer to spread to lymph nodes not in the neck (the rest of the body)? > > > > Thanks so much, > > > > > > ******************************************************
