Guest guest
, I'm so sorry you had such a difficult time at your relative's house! That sounds pretty horrid! Obviously, you've learned the hard way to never travel without nonperishable OP foods with you! Besides that though, there is nothing at all wrong with leaving your relative's house to go and get groceries for lunch or to eat out -- especially if they do not eat lunch! But regardless of that, think of it this way: What if you had an illness that required you to eat every two hours, and to eat HEALTHY? There are such illnesses you know! You wouldn't even bat an eye at leaving the house to get what you need to survive. Well, we NEED to survive and WW is teaching us how! So you have every right to take care of your health needs. I'll bet when you take that next trip you'll be much better prepared to deal with it! Best wishes and do let us know how that next trip goes! Guest guest
When I visit relatives I try to go big on vegetables and salad and small on everything else. If there is only junk I eat it but only a very small amount. Usually it tastes awful anyways. Holidays I allow myself to go a little overboard and don't deny the favorites like pie or cake. It depends- I always ask myself if its worth eating. This way I have a system that allows me to overeat once in a while without feeling deprived or guilty. I've kept 30 pounds off for a year and a half now. As long as you have a plan for things like this, you'll be ok. Good luck, Christy J. Guest guest
, it also depends whose relatives these are. If it were relatives I were comfortable with I would give them a lecture on how their eating is disgraceful! Then I would go on and on and blurt out some facts about the population's overweight problem and serious medical problems that accompany being fat. To me, overweight people will be the FIRST to tell you that you are too thin and to eat a hamburger but do not expect criticism that they are 50 pounds overweight. ---on the other hand, if these were relatives were sincere and polite and really had no clue I would go out of my way to help prepare dinner- maybe go buy some fresh fruit and ask if anyone wants any. Make it seem like you are just being hospitable with your WW intentions in mind. Christy J.
Guest guest
I visited my MIL at her summer house for the weekend and I was so unprepared to stay OP. She knows full well that I'm doing WW and that I have been absolutely faithful to the plan. Still, there wasn't one single healthy food item in her house. I kid you not. Not a piece of fruit, or veggie other than iceberg lettuce (and full-fat dressing of course). The only cereal was sugary kids crap. Breakfast was danishes! Not even eggs to be found. Oh, but she did make bacon to go with the danishes. Ugh. They never served lunch - just set out a bunch of potato chips and dip. I looked in the fridge and saw no lunchmeat or anything. Lots of mayo and salad dressing, dijon etc. but I have no idea what she puts it on. I asked if she sandwich/lunch foods and she looked surprised and said " No. We really don't usually eat lunch around here - would you like a bowl of cereal? " Thanks, no. Not a diet pop in the place and their water is undrinkable unless its been boiled first. Really - its a sewer or septic something or other. The hamburgers were ground beef AND ground italian sausage with the cheese baked inside! Its a wonder she isn't dead of a heart attack! I personally could care less what she eats herself, but don't you think with company coming you'd have a variety of things to offer you guests? Especially if you knew they were dieting?? Maybe its just me that would go out of my way for a guest? Good grief. I'm frustrated, I'm angry, I'm up two pounds and hoping most of it is water gain from crap foods. I know I was SO hungry all weekend because I tried to eat as carefully as I could with as little as I had to work with. The house is rurally located and she drove the kids and I there, so going to the grocery store wasn't an option unless she was taking me, which she clearly was not. Flat out telling her that there was nothing diet-friendly didn't even make her blink. Obviously, I'll have to bring some of my own groceries next time to her house. Ugh. What do you do when you go visiting relatives? Do you expect that you will be able to work around what they have or just come with all of your own stuff? I am visiting an Aunt in another state next month and now I'm terrified of a repeat performance. Yikes. Please don't chew me out for being so unprepared. I really thought I could handle it the same way I do parties. Boy was I wrong.
Guest guest
My in-laws rarely have any food in the house, much less bad food/good food. =) I usually stop by the grocery store and pick up a few items. This doesn't insult them in the least (my grandmother-in-law did get upset though when I had a Smart Ones meal at a BBQ, but I just told her that I was doing what I needed to do and she dropped the subject), plus it helps me stay focused. I'm sorry that your eating didn't go well and those 2 lbs will fly off if you stay on program this week. I need suggestions for visiting relatives pls. > I visited my MIL at her summer house for the weekend and I was > so unprepared to stay OP.
