Hi Chani

What were his reasons for begging you not to have this surgery, does he

know anything about it? Do you really think you would lose all your excess

weight in three months and would it be good for you if you did? If it is

that easy, why don't you do it without the indignity of having your jaw

wired? And when you have lost your weight through consuming only slimfast,

how are you going to keep it off?

Oh, I could go on and obviously the choice is yours .... if you think it

would work for you, go for it. I know it would not work for me, as I have

managed to lose all of my weight in the past through diet about four times

and each time I have put back all the weight, plus a bit more, until I

reached my all time high of 305 pounds. I know you can't make real

comparisons as you have not experienced either treatment but can I suggest

you do a pros and cons list and see which one comes out tops.

Hi ,

Thanks for your concern,, I highly doubt it, as he is a good friend who is

interested in a relationship with me,,,,,, In fact, regardless, we will

start going to the gym together. Also, knowing how close I am to my parents,

he told me that he would want me to get their approval first, so Idont think

this is about him.

I really don't know anymore, I am going to see what happens with tryiong to

get myself approved for the surgery. I was more pro the wiring because I

want to know I tried everything b4 I did surgery, Benjy, the guy who would do

it, actually predicts, that within 2 weeks I will be begging him to take it

off.

First of all, You, and all the Bandsters are so good to me, I am continuously

wondering what I have done to deserve this type of support, Thanks for

everything. I am 28, my sister who did it in France is 26, she has had 2

cesarians and knows about surgeon's knives. I on the other hand have never

been under the knife.

Therefore I am naturally apprehensive. I also feel like avoiding the knife,

by exploring every option is an obligation that I have to myself. I continue

to be thankful for the support I have from people who do not judge me, and I

have been back on my diet, (Atkins) to lose the weight I gained in Israel.

My friend has my best interests at heart, and only suggested it, after I told

him that I was ready for surgery, but scared out of my mind.

Dear Chani

I do understand your confusion, surgery is a big step to undertake and not

a decision to be taken lightly. I think your friend is right though, you

would find wiring so very hard to live with.

Can I be personal and ask how old you are? Also, is it the actual fear of

surgery that is worrying you? If you have never had surgery before then

you will be naturally apprehensive, particularly of the anaesthetic.

Personally I think the fear is worse than the actual event.

Keep posting and reading and hopefully we can all help to allay your worries.

Well that's good. My personal opinion about jaw wiring mirrors the others.

Great for the short term but unpractical for a social life. or ahem... a

private social life.

The band was the best thing I ever did, I not only lose the weight by

eating less, but what I eat is healthy and wholesome and I have no need for

vitamins or supplements. My skin is supple and my hair glossy. And I eat

till I am full and still lose weight. The head hunger is still there and

always will be though. I am beating that too.

Chani, Chani, it won't work!!! My girlfriend had her jaws wired, she lost

about 20 pounds (she wasn't heavy to begin with). She had to have it done

for dental reasons, anyway, she has never had a weight problem. Well guess

what, she has one now!!! She not only gained the 20 pounds back, but also

an additional 20. She has never dieted in her life and she's sooo unhappy.

Now......if you are already overweight to begin with and lose the weight,

trust me it will come back and a whole bunch more. It is not a permanent

solution, the problem that most of us on this list have isn't losing

weight, it's KEEPING it off!!!! Just my two pennies worth!!

I too have never " been under the knife " ....I'm nervous in an on/off kind of

way... but hey, as far as I'm concerned, this just has to be done!
