Sure - I don't know why it didn't go to Mitoldies but go ahead and send it to

me.

Alice

Hi I sent an email a few hours ago and it doesn't seem like it went through.

Can I send it to you Alice or Laurie and maybe you could put it on the list, it

is a pretty good article I think everyone would enjoy reading it I wanted to

send it a while ago when I sent it to Dr. Cohen and I think the umdf but we

changed servers and I lost my favorites and it took me awhile to find it again

thanks.

Donna,

Does have a picc line, a peripheral line, or a port-a-cath?

has had swelling and pain at the IV site when the fluid was

infiltrating or when she had blown a vein. This was with a peripheral

line. The IV had to come out to avoid having cellulitis. The only

time she had pain or stiffness around her picc line was when she had a

staph infection. She ran a high fever with that and it had to come out

and she wound up a might sick puppy in the hospital.

I don't think I was much help but that is my two cents worth.

Donna,

When my daughter, , had staph she was on multiple antibiotics.

The infectious disease expert at the hospital called Dr. Shoffner to

make sure the antibiotics he was planning to use were okay for mito

patients. Amminogylcosides have to be avoided for some types of mito.

I'm sorry I do not remember the name of the antibiotics used. She was

on them a week in the hospital and then a week via IV at home.

Hopefully it is just an infiltration and not an infection. I'm sorry

is having problems.

I got cellulitis following a fall on my knees. Oral antibiotics didn't work,

so they put in a modified PICC line and I gave myself IV antibiotics at home

for 4 weeks. I had to go in every 3 days to be checked and get more meds to

take home. At one point I was on a combination of two antibiotics. I can't

remember what they were at the moment, but I'll see if I can remember when

more awake.

I will keep you and in my thoughts.

HI Donna,

It sounds like the IV is infiltrating and the IV fluids are going into the soft

tissue around the vein instead of into the vein. This would cause pain and

swelling. It sounds like he needs a new IV and this one should be replaced.

Either way, you should probably contact the doc or homecare company about it.

Thanks Malisa,

I think you are right it looked like it was infiltrating though you can also see

and feel a bump I wonder if he does not also have a little phelbitis going on

the last time he was on keflex and it did help thanks again. I called the

hospital today to see how was doing and was told she was discharged I

was happy to hear she is doing better have you heard how a is doing take

care.

HI Donna,

How's today? Did he do okay without the extra IV fluids?

I talked to 's mom tonight. They were discharged from CCF but she is at

the local RMH. They are waiting for a flight home, but due to the hurricaine, a

lot of small planes are grounded for now. She is having some relief with the

miralax, but it isn't nearly what she had hoped for. They couldn't get the

manometry done due to scheduling issues so they may have to go back to CCF in

the middle of Sept. Her mom is worried she may have another UTI, too, but the

hospital has lost the sample several times now! Sigh.

a is home and is adjusting to the GJ tube. Hopefully she'll be up to

updating soon.

Please keep both and a in your prayers and thoughts.

Hi Malisa,

is coming along slowly he did stop the IV and did not want another one

started today. His arm is still sore I did put warm compresses on last night I

also think he has a little phelbitis as you can feel a little bump and there is

some redness. He was running a temp but I could not get anyone to give him an

antibiotic last time he had this he was on keflex and felt better. I think is is

concerned that with the mito and slight IGG defiency that he is at higher risk

for infections. I will keep and a in my prayers take care and

thanks for your support.

I will certainly pass along everyone's messages to if I talk to her or

her mom again. You are all such a wonderful support system!

Celia, tried zelnorm once in the past and had a bad reaction to it, but

I think she tried it again for a few days last month. It didn't seem to help so

they stopped it, but I think there is talk of trying it again. You'll have to

ask her about it again when she gets home. I can't remember if she said she had

already started it again or not.

Please don't every feel bad about asking questions. Please see someone

It sounds like it needs to be checked out. I know how young adult men can

with mom's (I've had two), but he is probably worried about it even if he

tells you he isn't.
