Guest guest
Corn is a starchy vegetable LOL Hi every body. I am a new member and boy do I need help. I have been a lifetime WW member for 4 years now. I went from 170 to 115 but am recently having trouble keeping the weight from creeping back. I left for vacation 129 and returned 5 days later 133.8. :-( I am not really sure what I did. Well, I know I over ate. LOL Here is my very long trip report. If any one wants to plow through and give me food tips I appreciate it. I was once very serious an d a dedicated member. Now I am gaining again. I want to catch it before I gain all 55 pounds back. Sherry in GA June 2-7 a Wedding, the beach, WDW Gay week, flower and Garden festival, and Star Wars Week Whew a Trip Report This trip was not expected. I had planned on going next year but my daughter’ s roommate decided to marry on a cruise ship at Port Canaveral. Mindy suggested I drive with her go to the wedding and then we could manage a day or two at WDW. I loved the idea of having someone go with me to WDW so the planning began. But because of school ending or perhaps my getting old I somehow managed to over look the fact that this would fall in the center of Gay week festivities. I do not consider my self bigoted but 100,000 extra folks regardless of sexual orientation do not thrill me. I changed all PC as I had managed to hit gay day in that particular park each and every time. We did not pack red shirts and are hoping for the best. I am finding I am planning a little more than usual. I want to avoid early entry days and now gay days. Basic Out line of trip June 2 Wednesday Leave Ga for Cocoa Beach Double Tree Inn We should arrive around 3. Check in time is 4 but we can set up at the beach while waiting. We plan a few hours of beach time and a supper of seafood. Early to bed. June 3 Thursday Check out of the Doubletree and go to Cape Canaveral gate 5 to join the wedding party by 11 we board the ship. Then apparently we just wait until the wedding at 2:00. Odd but that is what the bride wants. Even odder to me is the new bride and groom then plan a 4 day cruise with 8 of the groom’s best buddies. I can’t think of a worse honeymoon but no one asked me. LOL After the wedding we plan to drive to POP Century. I got a great price with my Disney VISA card for $308.77 for 4 nights. I hope to check in about 4. Planning Sherry's vacation tips concerning food 1. Count your points every day 2. If you lick it stick it. Journal daily 3. Drink your water 4. She promised to be at the house at 7:00 sharp. At around 7:30 she pulled up and we were on the road by 8. I wanted an early start as we did not know exactly where we were going. I drove straight to Ocala where we stopped at Sam’s club to get gas $1.98 a gallon (ouch). I wanted to stop at the WDW welcome center to pick up a times guide of the park. There we saw our first look at WDW that week. Inside was the typical postcard family. Two blonde darling children a handsome junior league type Mother and Father. There were also another American family of two blonde darling children, and two Mamas’. Then a third American family arrived consisting of a 6oish aging deadhead and his equally middle aged biker chick complete with fake blonde pony tail, tattoos and busting buxom. I had to laugh; we were all going to Disney World. It should be a great week for people watching. The trip down was uneventful. WE had some trouble finding our Doubletree Hotel on the Beach. Mindy had booked it wanting a nice place to stay on the beach. It was $79 a night which was about $30 higher than the comfort inn next store but she liked the idea of a nicer place to stay and a suite so we would have room to dress for the wedding. It was the most rundown Double Tree I had ever seen. WE checked in and were disappointed as the room was tiny, a king sized bed and over looked the air conditioner units. IT was noisy and dismal. The suite part was a tiny microwave and fridge in the bathroom. Mindy was disappointed. She was paying for this night so I hesitated to say any thing. But she seemed so unhappy I suggested we try for a better room. WE went back down and this time the teenager at the desk sent us to a worse room if possible with only one double bed. WE went back down again and this time we got the 4th floor and the two double beds she had requested at booking. WE also had a small balcony that over looked the beach. We went to bring in our over night things and the skies opened up and thunder and rain came. It was a mighty fierce storm and we watched it with pleasure form our room. Then we took a long walk on the beach. The critters were out. Mindy had never seen a beach with mice before and was not sad we did not have time to lay out on this one for a bit of sun. Ah Sanibel Island, here we come in July. WE ate a simple meal at Denny’s and went to bed early. Costs Room $79 Lunch at Sam’s $5.00 Dinner $10 each Gas $30 Points 20 June 3 the ship and the wedding Dinner: food court at Pop Century Cast: Mindy my daughter age 25 and I a dedicated weight watcher who is determined not to gain an ounce this trip. You can see us at http://204.146.52.215/epcot1.nsf/postcards/2A6FE2?OpenDocument & 96E955 The next morning I woke up early and took a nice long walk on the beach. It was a lovely hot day without a cloud in the sky. I was dripping with sweat after an hour walk. Mindy was in an uproar as she found when checking out they had charged us $149 for the room after saying it was a free upgrade. She went down and haggled and we ended up with the 79 a night plus tax. We checked out at 10 and drove 5 minutes to the pier. The boat was Carnival’ s fantasy. The Wedding party was gathered together and there was a wedding coordinator. We waited to around all board together. We had to check our driver’ s licenses to ensure we did not stow away. They had nothing to fear about. The movement of the ship started making me quay at once and it was in dock. WE were free to wander the ship and eat any where we wanted to. We went to Lido deck and had the buffet. The food was beyond terrible. The shop seemed small and quickly became crowded. Mindy was glad she had chosen not to go on the cruise. About half the wedding party was going on the cruise. It seems strange to me to honey moon with your best friends in a closed setting. The wedding was short and simple. It was held in a lounge area and the reception was in the disco. The bride looked lovely and very happy. The food at the reception was also terrible with half frozen egg rolls and too sweet fruit punch. It was time to go. WE left the ship and drive on the Beeline to get to WDW. We both were feeling queasy. I worried about check in at Pop Century but there our room was perfect. Check in was quick and painless. WE arrived at 4 and were given room 9131 on the ground floor in 90’s building B. W parked in the 70’s parking lot and our building was one of the buildings the closest to the food court and the bus stop. We had a Disney Visa Rate of $69 a night. The resort is almost new and is very clean and fresh. Our room seemed larger than mine at All Stars. We fell in bed and didn’t budge for a few hours. We were too tired and sick to go to down town Disney as planned. Instead we ate at the food court. Later we unpacked and I filled the cooler with ice. We were right next to a working icemaker. We both fell asleep before 10. It said Dear WDW resort hotel guest, Welcome to the World Disney World Resort! ON Saturday June 5, we are expecting a very busy day at the magic Kingdom Park. On this day, MGM Studios will offer an Extra Magic hour, opening at 8:00 featuring Star Wars Weekends. Transportation will begin at 7:30. We hope this information enables you to better plan your time with us. Sincerely, The Cast of WDW Obviously the idea was to alert every body that MK would be crowded on Sat. They did not say why. The effect was of course to make MGM very very crowded. It was the only direct reference I heard from the staff the entire stay. I believe they would tell guests if asked. I overheard one elderly British lady ask a young CM how WDW could make the “old poufs†stay in the assigned parks? He pretended to not understand and told her Disney had an open policy. The strategy was apparently to keep every one who might be offended out of MK on Sat rather than keep anyone in. I did the cooler routine of draining water and adding fresh ice and packing my fanny pack for the day. Camera, Car keys with only 2 keys on ring, tickets, drivers license, sunglasses, aspirin, and cash. Credit card. I filled a coke bottle with crystal light and put it on the WDW strap. I put on my sun hat It was warm already. I woke up Mindy, and went to the food court. I bought us grapes, skin milk, orange juice and filled the mug with hot water for tea. When I returned Mindy had not stirred. I forced her up and fixed an instant breakfast. Slowly very slowly she got ready. I suffer. At long last we leave. I like to drive in the mornings as I have waited ages for the busses before returning form a park in the early afternoons. I love that parking is free if you stay on property. We were at the end of the first crowd at MK entering the park at exactly 9:00. We hopped on the train and quickly got a fast pass for r Jungle cruise. Then we rode Buzz and then saw the new Mickey‘s Philharmonic. It replaced Lion King in Fantasy land and is a terrific addition. It is 3-D bits and pieces of most of my favorite recent WD animated films. We both enjoyed it. Then it was off to e Haunted House, our Jungle cruise, Pirates and lunch. Lunch was to be the only sour note of our trip. It was so hot we both wanted ice-cream floats. We went to Aloha Isle for a Dole Whip. Unfortunately they were out and I ordered a root beer float. I gave the CM a $10 bill and she gave me 30 cents change. I pointed it out and she said her drawer was closed. She pointed and told me to move. My daughter was behind me and I stayed put to wait for my change. She strangely enough then refused to wait on Mindy and waited instead on someone who just came after us. He paid with a credit card that didn’t work. The girl became more and more unpleasant and told me to move out of the way. My float melted. !0 minute later still refusing to wait on Mindy she threw me a $5 bill. It took 5 more minutes and a kid from Indiana to provide the correct change... In the meantime the girl never apologies or admitted she was wrong. She just kept saying “I tell her to get out of Line. She no gets out of Line. . When I got my money and a completely melted float she said “now Go†I went all right directly to city hall. Mindy never was waited on. The boy from Indiana told me to report her guest relations office. He did say he was sorry and that she doesn’t understand American currency. The CM at city hall added me to the “ list†of complaints. She also handed me three MK fast past coupons to use any way I wanted to. She was lovely. Apparently I wasn’t the first to complain about as the CM instantly wrote ’s first and last name on a form. I understand and support the foreign student program but why put them at the cash registers if they are iffy about giving change. There also needs to be a manger to help these kids if problems develop. It was no big deal but the magic was gone for both of us. We decided to leave and go back to the room. I grabbed a hot dog. Mindy ate the rest of her sandwich from the night before in the room. We were hot and tired. We quickly fell asleep and left for Epcot at 4:30. IF MK had seemed to have normal June crowds Epcot was deserted. I did not realize the Flower and Garden Festival was continuing and it brightened my spirits again. I love WDW and in 25 odd trips have only had one or two sour moments. The 30, million blooms, topiaries and special gardens brought back the magic quickly. Then we poked in Innovations and took pictures. To email home. You can see us at http://204.146.52.215/epcot1.nsf/postcards/2A6FE2?OpenDocument & 96E955 .. You may notice we were ready for the rain. The rains were on their way though so Mindy and I rushed though the Gardens riding only Space ship earth before we went to the Land for Dinner. We saw the film Circle of Life before we went to the Garden Grill for dinner. They were taking walk-ins. We had a 5 second wait. Our PS was at 5:50 but we were seated at 5:30. The Service and food was 10 out of 10. The restaurant revolves around slowly and you get a view of scenes form the land. The place was less than half full. WE had wonderful service. The food was served family style and was all you care to eat. First up was a wonderful salad with dressing on the side. The greens were so crisp and the tomatoes out of this world. I asked for seconds with extra tomatoes. Then came a skillet with heavenly catfish, flank steak and chicken. We also had several vegetables, glazed carrots, stuffing and mash potatoes with mushroom gravy. The bread and butter were excellent too. We ate and ate. It was wonderful. Desert was an entire hot cherry cobbler with ginger ice-cream. Yum. It was a nice get away form a long day. Our server told us he had once been the manager of the Windows on the World restaurant at the Twin towers. He was friendly and brought every thing quickly. The food was hot and delicious. I think it is by far the best meal I have ever had at the World. We left stuffed and happy. We wandered over to Canada to listen to Alberta Bound and then the Loving Spoonful without Sebstation. Then it was off to China movie and then the ride at Norway. It was getting close to 9 so we asked the man at Norway if there was time. “There is always time to visit Norway†he sad in a thick accent. We were alone I think on the ride. Then it was time to find a lace for Illuminations. It was nearly deserted. We found a perfect spot quickly. The crowds must have been elsewhere. The only ones wearing red shirts was a tour group of teens from Equador. I saw a few male couples who looked like ageing math professors. There was nothing that would have offended even the most conservative Baptist from Texas. We headed for the bus after Illuminations and caught one right away. Back in the room quickly we were asleep by 11. Costs Grapes $1.99 Orange juice $2.50 Fat free milk $1.98 Root beer floats $3.50 Hotdog $4.00 Garden grill for two. $60 Points 20 +5 activity points+15 flex points Day 4 June 5th Epcot, downtown Disney and MGM Dinner: catch as catch can Cast: Mindy my daughter age 25 and I a dedicated weight watcher who is determined not to gain an ounce this trip. You can see us at http://204.146.52.215/epcot1.nsf/postcards/2A6FE2?OpenDocument & 96E955 .. We slept in today. It was the big day at MK and we were planning to stay for away form the maddening. I got up first of course at abut 8. I wandered to the food court to get hot water and saw a huge line for MK at the bus stop. There were many red shirt. MGM also had a huge line. AK and Epcot lines looked deserted. It was early entry at MGM and the Star war weekend so I wondered it the crowds would leave in time for Fantastic. I filled the mug with hot chocolate instead of water and returned. We left at about 9:30 and it was hot already. This morning Epcot looked as deserted as last night. Every thing was in bloom. WE went to the land to see where our food from last night had been grown. I poked though every garden and took pictures of every flower. Mindy had not been to Living Seas in years. She was disappointed. There used to be a ride I think. We rode the Journey into Imagination and both agreed we liked the first ride best. Mindy had no energy today and is not an Epcot person. I love Epcot and it is my favorite place. I wanted to poke in all my favorite spots and look at the special gardens forever but Mindy was wearing down. WE went to England and had Fish and Chips in Poppins garden. It was 100 degrees in the shade and Mindy was melting like the witch in Wizard of OZ. I shoved her to France and we watched the movie. Or rather I watched the movie and she snored away. I had so much more I wanted to do but could tell she was not interested. So we left. I was disappointed but tried not to show it. I was really irate when once in the car she woke up and wanted to go shopping. She is a speech therapist and recently ended up with her dream job of working with Peds. Her clients are all under 5andmostly nonverbal. She has many under 2 years old (swallowing.) She wanted a Dress and snap Pooh Bear. This proved hard to find and someone had suggested the House at Pooh Corner at Downtown Disney. Trying to please off we went. I parked a the music store and picked up a Fathers day gift for my patient hubby at home. WE did not realize how far away Pooh Corner was. Mindy walked there. I waited thinking I could be at Epcot. I love taking trips with my family but sole is the way to go if you want to do exactly what you want to do. She found Pooh and two hours after we left Epcot we were in bed at the resort. When we awoke the hot weather was gone and it was raining again. I was worried Fantastic would d rain out. Apparently it had not been shown in three days due to the weeping skies. We left the resort and arrived at MGM in the rain. We had time to see Little Mermaid before we lined up with 10,000 of our dearest friends to see Fantastic. We were near the front of the line an got a great seat in the Mickey section. The rain spitted and stopped for the next two hours. It didn’t look too promising but after several delays it started at 9:30. I love that show and it is always worth the wait. As we were leaving the park we saw a group[ of about 12 very handsome men wearing tight red tee shirts entering the park. Mindy sighed. “There go all hunks my age and why I am so single going on vacations with my Mother.†Poor Mindy. The lines were not bad for the bus and we were at the resort by 10:30. Costs Fish and chips $6.95 each Ice-cream sandwich $3.50 Diet coke $2.50 Pooh Bear for Mindy $25.00 Tape for Dennis $18.00 Points 20+ 4 exercise points Day 5 June 6th AK and MK Dinner: Crystal Palace at 6:00 Cast: Mindy my daughter age 25 and I a dedicated weight watcher who is determined not to gain an ounce this trip. My favorite comment came from a little girl who was asking questions the way only 10 year olds can. She apparently saw more at WDW than I did yesterday. Her father had explained things but had not answered the most important question to her. " Daddy, I know all that “she said " but I still don't understand why that man wore high heels to Magic Kingdom in the morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! " Maybe this is the guy the little girl was talking about: http://www.gayday.com/photos/photo_album.asp?album=22 & category=4 & item=N172 S The whole line cracked up and one lady gave the perfect answer.†He was just dressing up for fun. Then she pointed to a little girl wearing a Belle costume. The 10 year old was instantly satisfied. Her question had been answered. I think we try to over explain. Kids only need the answers to what they really want to know. I saw nothing even slightly disturbing this trip. It wasn’t any different than a trip to the Lennox Mall in Atlanta. If anything I have new stereo types. Some gay men may look like hunks but most seem to look like high school math teachers. And lesbians seem to look much more like middle aged weight watcher members than any one exotic. Oh my ,in fact they look a lot like me! What we all had in common this weekend was the love of WDW. I have a love hate relationship with AK. I find it however , crowded and hard to get around in. Also there are only three things I like to do. But those three rides are my favorites in all of WDW. I love the Safari ride, the raft ride and Lion King Show. Over the years I have tried every thing else to get a full day out of AK. I have tried riding my favorite rides three times each. I have tired going first and this year last. No matter AK turns into a hot dusty morning trip. With out my park hopper it would not be worth the money. This trip Mindy and I arrived before the park opened. We were with the first wave rushing to get an early safari. The line was already too long so we got a fast pass and went to see Lion King. I like that show more every year. I swear the same singers are in forever. The monkeys never change either. What a strange career choice . What do I do? Oh I am a monkey in the Lion King show at WDW. I hope it pays. We then went on the Safari. Most of the animals were asleep I am afraid. Then we went to get a fast pass for the raft ride. Mindy was hungry so we ate at Pizza Safari. I hated spending that many points on a pizza but ate every bite. Then I wanted to for reasons unknown see the Bug show again. I hated it the first time and hated it this time. It was time for the raft ride and I rode it twice. After taking the two nature walks there was nothing left to do at AK. I wanted to return to Epcot but Mindy was too tired. She would have stayed all night in the resort but we had a Ps for Crystal Palace. We returned to MK just in time to eat. I would give the Crystal palace 6 out of 10 for food quality. It bills itself as gourmet food but is just ’s at WDW. The service was fine. It is a buffet but the food wasn’t really hot or good. I ate too much as I usually do at a buffet. I had boiled shrimp and salad (2 points) cheese bread with seasoned butter, (3 points) roast beef (5 points) mashed potatoes with gravy (5 points) dressing ( 3 points) stir fried vegetables (2 Points ) red velvet cheese cake (4 ) apple cobbler (4) key lime pie (4) 32 points all together . After dinner I felt sick and stuffed. I was angry at my self for over eating. Mindy was just tired and wanted to return to the room to watch the Tony’s. I was determined to watch the new Wishes Fireworks so I stayed. I pulled myself over to Splash Mountain and rode it with a darling 10 year old from Tennessee. She was a talker and such a sweetie I offered to share the passes I was given at the City hall with her and her Mom. We went to Mickey’s Philhormagic and then to Pan. It was then time to find a good spot to watch the parade. It was not too crowded. It was a great parade. Then the new Wishes show started. I think it is wonderful. I was so tired I could barely stand up . Somehow I made it to the bus only to have a 45 minute wait. It was almost midnight before I made it to the room. I dreamed of Lion King and relived every minute of the last 4 days. I also threw up most of the food from the Crystal palace. Costs Photo album $18 Milk $1.95 Pizza $6.95 (16 points) Dinner $25 ( 32 points) Points 20 + 31 flex a very bad day food wise. 2 exercise points Final thoughts We left at about 10 the next morning. It was a smooth trip back home. I felt sad as always. I missed a lot of things I usually do. I needed anther day or two. I spent a lot of the trip home planning my next trip. It is always that way. I think once a year for 3 days is best for me. Mindy on the on the hand thinks one day every 5 years is just fine. She just doesn’t understand what I get out my trips to WDW. Still I would rather have company than go alone and do as I want to. This trip had many highlights. I loved the new Philharmagic ride at MK. Dinner at the Garden Grill was a treat. Epcot at the Flower Festival was the prettiest I have ever seen it. I could have spent two more days just there. AK had my same favorite 3 rides as always. Alberta Bound was a nice new discovery. I had a good time and enjoyed my self thoroughly. Food wise I did not do well. Sat before I left I weighed 129. Wed. June 9 I weighed 133.8. What happened? I followed some of my guide lines but apparently over ate. Sherry's vacation tips concerning food 1. Count your points every day I did that and was in range until the last day at Disney. I ended the week (Wednesday to Wednesday) having eaten 55 Flex points rather than 35. My target is 20 a day. 2. If you lick it stick it. Journal daily I did journal faithfully 3. Drink your water I had no trouble doing this at WDW. 4. Plan what you are going to eat before you eat it I fell down here. I really over at only at the Crystal Palace. But snacks here and there added up. 5. Take low point snacks with you (fruit, raw veggies, 2 point bars, and fruities) I did this and it helped me not doing more damage than I did . 6. Eat a few meals at the local Kroger’s or publics (Deli counter) We ate in the parks for the most part. 7. Take your vitamins That I did 8. Drink your milk or eat your yogurt I did have milk each day but only one glass not 3. 9. Watch your portions This was my down fall especially at the two sit down dinners. I ate basically what I wanted and paid dearly for it. 10. Exercise Exercise Exercise And above all moderation in every thing except having fun. I walked. My method of figuring exercise points was to use the pedometer and count each mile. Then I subtracted 3 miles form the total as they were standing around steps more than just moving. I counted the remainder as my exercise points. I clearly walk more at epcot . LOL I did have fun. It was worth the few pounds. I think I probably underestimated points of what I ate. Still vacations are hard for me. I will do better at Sanibel. Gay week turned out to be nothing to worry about. Crowds are to be expected at all times now at the World. It can’t be helped. These crowds were well behaved and didn’t bother any one. It had little effect on Mindy and me. Still we did avoid the park of the day. I am ready to start my count down to my next trip.
