Guest guest
I'm looking for a good general book about physical fitness, which covers the basics of exercise and nutrition and so on. I've looked at a few, but I'm not sure which would be the best. I'm particularly wary of any books which are " faddish " in any way; I just want good, solid, down-to-earth, scientifically-backed information. Books that I've looked at already: _The Everything Total Fitness Book_. This one was pretty good. I liked that it included a chapter on stress management. It had a chapter about setting goals, but that chapter was included at the end, as a sort of afterthought. _Fitness for Dummies_. This one had some good information and pointed out a number of " gotcha " possibilities. But it lacked chapters on stress management or goal-setting. _The Complete Idiot's Guide to Fitness_. This one impressed me the most of these three, since the first chapter was about setting goals (which seems like the most important first step of any fitness program), there was a chapter on stress management, and it included a chapter on martial arts. I liked these three books because they weren't selling anything but themselves: no programs, no wonder drugs or diets, no " Exercise this way and you'll lose eighty-three inches in TWO DAYS!!! " slogans. Anyone have any suggestions? -- Sláinte, S.
