Last year, in July, my sister-in -law had wls : gastric bypass. She spent four

weeks in hospital, suffering severe pains. Then she spent six more weeks at

home, not able to do a thing ..

I had been considering this type of operation myself, her doctor recommended it

to me as well. He was not in favor of the band .. Later I found out that he

performed gastric bypasses by the dozen.

My sister-in -law and I sometimes talk about our operation, she says that if she

had known about the band she would have gone for it.

Now she's a bit jealous of my band ... It seems so easy .. Four days in

hospital, back to work very soon, not suffering.

She still isn't able to eat solid food and is now consulting a doctor who states

that in certain cases a gastric bypass (with staples) can be removed. Because

her social life suffers very much, she's considering it. She would like to

replace it with a band. She hasn't decided yet ...

Everytime we talk, I'm more and more convinced that I took the right decision.

The band is not the " easy way out " , it's " the smartest way out "

It's now five weeks that I had my operation, I'm happy with the weight loss.

I cannot weigh myself at home, my scales only go up to 150 kg and now I am 155.

I hope to lose enough before June 15, the day I will get weighed at the doctor's

and my band will be filled for the second time. Then, I'll come home and weigh

myself : it's been years since I was able to weigh myself on normal scales ..

Bye folks that's all for now

Dear , I have a business associate who also had gastric, she too suffered

and suffered and nearly died. She could not absorb any vitamins nor could

she eat enough to sustain her own. She lost her hair, her nails became

brittle and on and on. She had it reversed and is now even larger. She is

considering the band. I received the band January 1998 and have lost over 50

lbs so far I feel great and can move around soooooo much better. I have cut

out most breads and grains (carbohydrates) and I think that has done the

trick for me. I watersize 3 times a week and do a lot of relaxation

techniques. Good luck to you and your sister in law. OOXXOO Liz (ibselle)
