I have turned the restrictions back on, so memberships must be

approved.

Tory and Diane (dloupe) are co-moderators here. Diane reached goal

awhile ago and I haven't seen her for a bit.....are you out there???

How are you? Tory leads a busy life, as do I.

I am going to be away from the computer until the 20th of June. I

would gladly approve another moderator to help out. The caveat is

that that person must possess the same ideals that Tory and I do.

You know, we're hard-core, believe in following the program

365/24/7. That person must not be afraid to comment when a post

comes in that does not follow the group outline.

So, if anyone is interested, please email me at Serious-Weight-

Watchers-owner .

I did not leave the group, I needed to take a break and leave for

awhile.

Basically, everyone here should be a Serious Weight Watcher. The "group outline" or "rules" are on the SWW yahoo homepage, but I'll paste them below.

"Join us if you're seriously following Weight Watchers' Winning Points or 123 Success programs. This group is for support, recipes, and idea exchanges related to changing our lifestyles forever. No whining allowed! If you attempt your programs half-heartedly, this is not the group for you. If you binge after weigh-in, not for you. Only serious weight watchers here!"

We are a support group first and foremost... no one cares if you've been able to do this diet without any temptations or if you're white-knuckling through each day. All we ask is that you start each day with the goal of doing your best...and if something doesn't go as planned...post a message here and you will get some great support and advice.

posted it yesterday, but I'll post it again. It's basically what's on the group home page:

"Join us if you're seriously following Weight Watchers' Winning Points or 123 Success programs. This group is for support, recipes, and idea exchanges related to changing our lifestyles forever. No whining allowed! If you attempt your programs half-heartedly, this is not the group for you. If you binge after weigh-in, not for you. Only serious weight watchers here! Keep off topic discussions to a bare minimum. This is just for weight loss and healthy lifestyle discussion."

I will tell you about restrictions.

Posting to the group that you went off program. That's a

restriction. Now, posting to the group that you slipped, went off

program and need help and encouragement is NOT a restriction. There

is a big difference. If you have an oh-well attitude, that's not

positive for the group or yourself. If you have an attitude that

states, " Darn, I messed up, what can I do to prevent this from

happening in the future? " That's okay.

See, the reason I started this group in the first place was I got

sick of the Weight Watchers boards where people were laughing and

joking and posting frequently about what all they ate that was not

OP. I found it extremely counter-productive to the changes I was

trying to make. It's negative, and frankly, it makes me want to

eat. If they can, why can't I? I'm that weak when it comes to

food. I knew there were others out there with the same thoughts.

So a blatant, " I went off program, oh well, " post is not okay, but a

request for help, encouragement, etc. IS okay. It's a fine line, but

hopefully you can understand what I'm talking about.

I will police this, as I have from the group's inception, because

this group IS a positive place, and I won't let those types of posts

slip in here. Once they do, they take over.

wondered,

> So if I " m having a bad day, I can't say right?

As I understand it, the difference is this:

BAD: I went off program today and ate 473 points worth of

chocolate-covered deep-fried Twinkies, and by God I'm PROUD of what I did

and I'd do it again for a nickel and to PHOOEY with Weight Watchers! Yay

me!

GOOD: I went off program today and ate 473 points worth of

chocolate-covered deep-fried Twinkies, and I really would like some tips

on how to avoid making that sort of mistake again in the future.

As Lyn said, it's a subtle distinction, but it's there.

Of COURSE you can say if you're having a bad day. Just don't parade it

around like: " I overate by 50+ pts today and wow, it feels great to go

off of program and I can't wait to do it again this weekend! " Some

people on this board might think " well, if she can do that, why can't

I? " and then things just go downhill.

If you went over your points for lunch or dinner and you really want to

get some motivation to get back on track, then message the board and

you'll get lots of great advice. If you went over your points and are

happy you did it, well, just don't send a message on the board saying

that you're happy about it. That's all.

This is first and foremost a support group! A lot of us have had

" oopsy- that was a lot more points that I had thought " moments or times

when we just go overboard and don't care while we're doing it. The most

important thing is to not look at that as the beginning of the end and

just start going back to the habits that got us all on WW in the first

place.

Please, please don't hesistate to e-mail me personally if you have any

questions. I just want to make sure I'm being clear about the goals of

this message group.

stated this perfectly!

Everybody has bad days, everybody struggles, everybody makes

mistakes. But the whole key is to change our thinking! It's one

thing to say oh phooey, I'll just start over tomorrow, I don't care.

It's another to say...well, I messed up, what am I going to do right

NOW to get back in the correct mindset!

I think this whole journey is 95% mental. So keeping things on a

positive note is a great start.

Thank you, , for explaining so beautifully!

Not at all...here is the difference:

Okay:

I'm having a bad day and for some reason I couldn't stay out of the

cookies. Help me figure out ways to get around this!

Not Okay:

I ate an entire bag of cookies tonight! Do you think if I drink all my

water I'll still lose? Haha! I don't care. At least I enjoyed it!

Okay:

Today was my birthday and I had totally planned for it. I had all my

flexies and I worked out this morning. I planned angel food cake and

strawberries. Unfortunately I went over by about five points, darn it!

Not Okay:

Today was my birthday so I went off program and man oh man did I have

FUN! I don't even want to COUNT the number of points I ate!

Okay:

Help me with ideas for vacation. I'm worried I'm going to have a hard

time staying OP and I don't want to undo all my hard work.

Not Okay:

I'm going on vacation and leaving my journal at home! I'm having FUN

this trip and I don't even want to HEAR the term points for two weeks!

Okay:

Here's the menu I have planned for Thanksgiving. What do you think? Any

ideas for lowering points?

Not Okay:

Thanksgiving? I'm not counting points. After all, it's only once a year!

(And so is Christmas, Easter, birthday, anniversary, St. Pat's day, 4th

of July, April Fools Day, Halloween, New Years Eve, New Years Day, DH's

birthday, DK's birthday, the dog's birthday, the anniversary of my first

hangnail, etc...get my drift?)

Okay:

I never thought I was a stress eater, but I had to take my daughter to

the hospital with a broken arm last night and for some reason I just

could not control my eating! I'm so frustrated by this! How do others

handle it?

Not Okay:

I was so bored last night I just plowed through a bag of chips. Oh well.

I figure I'll just drink all my water. I'm sure it will be fine.

Then two days later.

Yeah, I was really bored last night and for some reason I had bought a

bag of Oreos. I ended up eating the WHOLE thing! Do you think I'll see a

gain?

Then two days later.

DARN IT! Up 3 pounds this week. This program just does NOT work for me!

Okay:

I have an office pot luck tomorrow. Ideas for avoiding temptation? I

have to bring a dessert. Any low point ideas?

Not Okay:

There was an office party today and what was I supposed to do? I just

ate and ate and MAN was it GOOD! I hope I don't gain this week, but if I

do..it's worth it!

It isn't that you can't share your weaknesses. WE all have them! It's

the almost " bragging " that you see on other lists. " I ate half a cow!

Haha! Okay it's only one day. " then three days later " I ate the other

half the cow! Hee hee! What is WRONG with me?! Oh well. Tomorrow is

another day! " It's people who aren't serious about the program. Who try

to find any way to get around it. Who complain about it CONSTANTLY and

who are forever going off program for any reason whatsoever. Those are

the people for whom this group really doesn't work. There are tons of

other groups that work for that.

I know this is a serious topic, but the mental picture/taste of

chocolate covered deep-fried twinkie gave me the serious giggles.

I don't know if anyone has ever dipped them in chocolate, but I have

seen deep-fried Twinkies at the State Fair in Sacramento. My only

comment on the subject was " Ew " .

I am still having a major problem with all of this. This big ado

was going on before my vacation, and we have been gone for a few

weeks, but I am now back and trying to catch up, albeit I am still a

few weeks behind. When the controversary started, was NOT

bragging that she intentionaly went off program and didn't care

anything about it, she was and hopefully still is, a faithful WW

member who has had great success in losing weight and turning her

life around to be her " future lifestyle " . The only thing she said

was that she " celebrated " her birthday. She basically felt forced

to leave this group which I personally think was not right. She was

very loyal and faithfully following the WW plan. , if you are

reading this, I wish you well. Another thing I personally have a

problem with is, IF we are to be so strict in what we can or cannot

say, then why are we going SO " off tropic " to hear every detail of

people's race reports.

Right away, let me clarify this, I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO proud of

each and every one of you who are training or participating on race

events of any kind; however, that does also not fit the description

of this board as serious weight watchers. I think you are great and

more power to you, BUT, maybe these statsictics belong on another

board? Or else, maybe I just don't belong on this board because I

want to hear about food and recipes and weight loss. I have once in

a while reported on my exercise activity also, but I don't really

think it belongs on this board. I may be in a monority here, in

which case, I can delete myself from this group.

Exercise is an important part of Weight Watchers. They have WW exercise

videos...they give out exercise pamphlets in the meetings...it is an

integral part of the program, but some people just don't choose to do

exercise either because of physical limitations or just by choice.

If you don't like reading race reports, I would just click delete and

move on to the next message.
