Guest guest
Congrats on the three-sport day, Tory. Question for you - what prevented you from climbing the hill - could you not gear down far enough? How many gears does your bicycle have? Speaking of getting all muddy while bicycling .... Friday morning a buddy of mine from the office came over early in the AM and we went out and did 24 miles before going to the office.... it had been a so-so week with several thunderstorms .. and it was in fact, lightly raining during this ride. We rode about 10 miles into Princeton - stopped for breakfast and then decided to ride back along the towpath along the canal. Well, all the rain had left lots of puddles. Since this is normally a hard-packed dirt trail, it was pretty muddy. At first, we attempted to maneuver around the puddles - not always successfully. Then, we went through one puddle, which looked shallow, but wasn't. Needless to say, we got drenched in mud. Tim said, " well, let's go for it - it doesn't matter now " . We rode hard and I had to hose us both down when we got back to my house. LOL !!! BTW, its' pretty cool that I can ride with Tim. He and I are now about the same weight. Even in my heavier days, I was more of a cyclist - but he's been in to multi-sport - cycling, running, kayaking, mountain-climbing, sailing, The first time we rode together, I was scared that I wouldn't be able to keep at - but we actually seem to be compatible in our cycling pace. A year ago he would have left me in the dust. Towards the end of our ride on Friday, he said, " Mitch - got to tell you - your calf muscles are chiseled " (so, I guess all the bicycling miles are paying off :-)). It is an EXTREMELY steep hill and two things prevented me: the fact that it is a very VERY steep hill and my quads just weren't quite up to it, at least that afternoon, and the fear of going back down at about 40 mph if I made it. I haven't had a chance to try it since as it's been raining almost constantly since then! I was hoping to get a god ride in today, I even have my bike shorts on, but it's cold and rainy and I don't like riding in the cold rain. > Speaking of getting all muddy while bicycling .... I don't mind a warm rain, or slight sprinkle. But it's windy riny today. The wind is blowing clouds away, though. I'm going to exchange my mt bike tires for street slicks this afternoon so I hope to get out and get something of a ride in. > BTW, its' pretty cool that I can ride with Tim. One time after a race someone walked by me and told me I had great legs (it was a woman). It was very " validating " to have someone who I pereived to be a runner, notice that. Guest guest
Thanks, Tory - keep trying that hill. There's a really steep hill near my home. When I first tried it, I made it about 1/4 of the way up - then had to walk the rest. About 4 months later, I made it 3/4 of the way up. This spring - I got in a REALLY low gear and just kept pedaling - made it all the way up (this is about 1 1/2 miles).... so proud of myself. My goal by the end of the summer is to get up that hill in a higher gear. Mitch Tory Klementsen wrote: >>Congrats on the three-sport day, Tory. Guest guest
Oh trust me, it's on my to do list. I would have tackled it this week, but we've had LOTS of rain. Next week I'll tackle it again and I'll keep working at it until I make it. I might have made it further that day, even, but I was alone and didn't want to push it without backup. > Re: Run Bike Swim > > > Thanks, Tory - keep trying that hill.
