I have never heard of this, or that HSG can detect that kind of thing.

If your womb can carry 2 healthy pregnancies I think it is just fine.

Even if they found out your uterus had a funny shape I can't imagine

any treatment that would prevent tort in future pregnancies.

the incidence of plagio and tort have dramatically increased since the

back to sleep campaign. I doubt your uterus was impacted by the

back-to-sleep campaign :-) Rather, tummy time/ tummy sleeping

strengthens and stretches the neck. back sleeping babies that favor

one side don't get as much neck/upper body strength, and also aren't

encouraged to stretch.

How interesting! I have never heard of of an abnormal uterus

causing tort or plagio but I would definitely think it could be

possible (depending on where the head is). I've never heard of the

HSG either. I would want to know if there are any risks involved in

trying to correct the uterus (or whatever they correct) to help

prevent the tort/plagio from happening again. I do agree with

that plagio has increased since the whole back to sleep.

PS: I have an Eli. Is your son's full name Elijah or Eli? Ours is

Elijah . I also like the name Chloe if we ever had a girl. :)

My child was breech, and had a different head shape than asymetrical (plagio), it was scaphocephalic (long and narrow) in shape, but my OB/GYN mentioned it might have been from a tipped uterus (though usually the uterus doesn't "tip" until after at least one pregnancy). He was big, too (8lbs, 14.5oz ) and didn't move too much. She didn't say anything about trying to fix the tipped uterus -- though we aren't planning on having any more, so I didn't ask. (I was 35 when I had him). >------- Original Message ------->From : christineashok[mailto:christineashok@...]>Sent : 6/21/2007 1:14:11 AM>To : Plagiocephaly >Cc : >Subject : RE: Re: Torticollis a result of an abnormal uterus?>>I have never heard of this, or that HSG can detect that kind o

To answer you questions! No there is probably nothing wrong with you

uterus! My son was perfectly healthy, my daughter on the other hand

was born with tortacollis from the way she was positioned in my uterus

from the time she was 20 weeks on (she was head down with her head on

my cervix, and I was on bedrest for the last 2 months of my pregnancy

because they thought I was going to have a premature baby.

If your child's head was down and in an awkward position then that is

what probably caused the problem.

Hi there,

We adopted our son at birth but we do know

he was breech and they were unsuccessful in turning him before his birth. They did a C-section and they did discover

that his birthmother had a tipped uterus or something like that. It supposedly caused him to be in the breech

position which in turn we know caused the tort and plagio. It’s definitely an interesting

question.

Well, I hate to shoot a hole in that theory, but Sofia my second was

larger than Fiona, her sister. Fiona, perfect head, no tort,

everything fine. Sofia tort-plagio! So if it's an abnormal uterus then

shouldn't both my girls have had the same thing? Although, admittedly,

I did have Fiona first, so something may have happened " after " she was

born, indicating that all future children would have problems. This

uterus theory....would it be congenital? Would it be something I was

born with, the shape of my uterus? If so, then that doesn't make sense

as it would have affected both children. On the other hand, if it's

something that can develop then what is it exactly? What is abnormal

that contributes to tort/plagio?

Sofia was aggressively repo-ed from Moderate to clinically

normal...doing great now...beginning to walk...hopefully she won't

knock her head and undo all the hard work!!!!!!!

Well, as you know the experts say that larger babies and multiples

are more likely to have tort because there is less room in utero. It

makes sense that Sofia would have tort and not Fiona if Sofia was

larger than her sister.

I wasn't saying that all cases might be a result of an abnormal

uterus, just wondering if mine might have been since both my babies

had tort. I know not every baby who has tort came from an abnormally

sized or shaped uterus. Some experts even say that tort could be

caused by trauma at birth. I even wondered if that was the case with

my first child, but it probably was not since both my children had

tort. It just seems to make sense to me that maybe they were both

cramped in my womb, which makes me think there might be something

wrong with my uterus, not yours or everyone else's. I hope that

clarifies what I was trying to say. I was not trying to say that all

tort babies came from abnormal uteruses.

I have no idea what would cause an abnormal uterus, whether it would

be something I was born with or whatever. My OBGYN said what I could

have is a septum in my uterus (which I think is a wall that makes it

more crowded for the baby), but she's just guessing at this point.

It could be anything, or it could be nothing at all.

Thanks, everyone, for your help.

, thanks for your response. That's a good point. I would

definitely need to research more the procedure before having

anything done. My doctor said it would be a simple procedure if the

problem is what she thinks it might be - a septum in my uterus that

makes it more crowded for my babies. But I would get a second

opinion before having it done, and I probably wouldn't have it done

unless it will cause any other problems for me in the future or if I

plan on having more children.

Yes, our Eli is short for Elijah. We wanted Biblical names for our

children and both really like Elijah. It was much harder for us to

find a Christian girl's name that we liked. Although Chloe is not a

name you think of as being Biblical when you hear it, she was

actually mentioned very briefly in 1 Corinthians, and we just loved

the name!

, you said " the incidence of plagio and tort have

dramatically increased since the back to sleep campaign. I doubt

your uterus was impacted by the back-to-sleep campaign :-) Rather,

tummy time/ tummy sleeping strengthens and stretches the neck. back

sleeping babies that favor one side don't get as much neck/upper

body strength, and also aren't encouraged to stretch. "

Has the incidence of tort increased since the campaign, or just the

incidence of plagio? I thought it was just plagio because babies are

sleeping on their backs and the pressure is being put on the back of

their heads. Well, either way, both my children were born with tort.

It was evident at birth. So in our case, the back-to-sleep campaign

actually didn't cause tort, but it probably did help in causing the

plagio in Chloe. We were doing the neck stretches and trying to do

tummy time, but the tort that she had at birth plus sleeping on her

back at night are what caused the plagio.

Thanks,

Amy

I was told that I had a tilted uterus, and emma was a good size at

8lbs and 20in long. Emma was born with a mild case of Tort. so yes I

do think uterus and baby size can contribute to torticollis.

Hi Amy,

Tort has also increased also. I think someone at CT explained it was

related to tummy time naturally stretching the neck and encouraging

upper body strength, so if tort is present it gets better instead of

worse. now with back sleeping and lots of equipment that keeps babies

upright or on their back (swings, bouncers, car seats), even if there

is a little tightness in the neck it gets worse more easily (I'm

totally paraphrasing, and not necessarily 100% accurate, but that made

sense to me).

Here are some links that says something similar (thanks to google):

http://xpedio02.childrensmn.org/stellent/groups/public/@xcp/@web/@parentingresou\

rces/documents/policyreferenceprocedure/web053447.asp

http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct/show/NCT00347334;jsessionid=5D070E82A98BACA548CBF5F\

btw I love the name Chloe. I didn't know it was biblical either.

Amy,

That's cool that you guys want Biblical names for your children.

Our son's first and middle name turned out to be Biblical (even

though our original reasons for choosing our son's name was that we

really liked the name Elijah and Elijah sounded good

together). Your right, most people don't think of Chloe as a

Biblical name. Now, I am curious exactly where in I Corinthians

Chloe is mentioned....I'll need to go look! :>)

Hi to you all, I had 2 other children prior to Riley who has tort and plagio, l also have a slightly tilted uterus but my other 2 are fine. Riley did come out sunny side up and he also had the cord wrapped around him. We are questioning also if his tort and plagio were due to his delivery as we noticed his head shape almost immediately and looking at the photos of his birth it was definately there then. I am again pregant with my 4th but am opting for an elective c section due to his delivery and complications with him. I am going to see our specialist again in 2 weeks and l will be questioning him on if it is a in utero thing and if so how can we make sure that the same thing does not happen with this child, l do know that l tended to lay on one side in bed with Riley to so if this had something to factor into as well. I think the bottom line is that anything that contributes to cramped

quarters for baby can contribute to (but will not always result in)

tort/plagio whether that be a funny shaped uterus, pelvis, small

frame, twins, etc. I know with my experience, I am very tiny/narrow,

I also have lots of abdominal scar tissue from Crohn's surgeries,

and I know my son was locked into my pelvis from about 6 months on

and he hardly could move (I worried so much about stillbirth!!

lol). His head was pressing on my cervix so much and so early that

I was 100% effaced by week 33. His head even crowned

sideways/tilted (fun - nice tears). He was NOT a big baby. He was

born at 38 weeks, 6lb 10 ounces. Only time will tell if my future

babies have the same fate, but I was reading about the Webster

technique for chiropractic wherein it can kind of open up the pelvic

bones more...I have not done much research, but I want to look into

it more.

Either way, plagio/tort is not the end of the world and IMO not a

reason to abstain from having another baby " just in case " my build

will make this happen again. We'll just fix it! And, for those

moms on the second go round, we can repo from day one and not mess

around with misleading peds, etc. :)

Hi , I too have abdominal scarring from crohn's disease surgeries, I never thought about that!! That is very interesting and has me thinking! Thanks, Mandy vanessackm <vanessackm@...> wrote: I think the bottom line is that anything that contributes to cramped quarters for baby can contribute to (but will not always result in) tort/plagio whether that be a funny shaped uterus, pelvis, small frame, twins, etc. I know with my experience, I am very tiny/narrow, I also have

lots of abdominal scar tissue from Crohn's surgeries, and I know my son was locked into my pelvis from about 6 months on and he hardly could move (I worried so much about stillbirth!! lol). His head was pressing on my cervix so much and so early that I was 100% effaced by week 33. His head even crowned sideways/tilted (fun - nice tears). He was NOT a big baby. He was born at 38 weeks, 6lb 10 ounces. Only time will tell if my future babies have the same fate, but I was reading about the Webster technique for chiropractic wherein it can kind of open up the pelvic bones more...I have not done much research, but I want to look into it more. Either way, plagio/tort is not the end of the world and IMO not a reason to abstain from having another baby "just in case" my build will make this happen again. We'll just fix it! And, for those moms on the second go round, we can repo from day one and not mess around with

misleading peds, etc. :) n, 11 months, Starband grad>> Hi, everyone!
