It's hard to contradict " you're going to die " . Ask 'em what exactly

you're going to die of, as in what are the " ill effects " of this WOE?

If they don't come up with any concrete concerns, just whatever the

LF/diet industry has brainwashed em all to spout, then you really don't

have to argue with them. Next time you catch em eating a piece of pie,

tell em they're gonna die.

If they say they're concerned that you'll get high cholesterol or

something then you can show em your test results. You can point to

specific studies or sections of Atkins' book to address specific

points. But if your friend has no specific points, then tell 'em so.

A diabetic friend of mine was really shocked & concerned that I was trying

to turn the ketostix purple, when I explained to him what Atkins says in

the book, that ketosis is normal/low blood glucose combined with purple

strips, while ketoacidosis is always accompanied by high blood glucose.

That was his only concern and he's very supportive now. I can even

confide in him the times when I am feeling low because of the diet without

worrying about getting a knee-jerk response of " well, you should eat some

carbs " .

And yes, there's always the general counter arguments such as, well if I

don't eat this way I'll get diabetes and heart disease, so what precisely

is it you're worried about? or comparing this WOE with what you used to

eat: oh, so you're telling me that going to BK and getting fries and a

soda with my burger and eating the bun is a better diet than skipping the

fries and soda and not eating the bun?

After awhile when you're visibly looking better, they stop asking.

Really. " I've lost 65 lbs " really shuts em up. They won't tell you

that's all water weight, they won't tell you you were better off carrying

it around.
