Guest guest
-I am not a doctor so this is just my experience. My first daughter had severe left torticollis. When she was born, the right side of her face was much fuller than her left and she had a shoulder to cheek tilt. They told me it was common in first born girls. She did not have plagio or at least very mild and lots of hair. She did PT for 2 years and had 2 botox injections. When my second daughter was born, after looking to see that it was a girl, my next comment was " she has torticollis, just like her sister " . She looked the exact same way but then had overriding sutures and no soft spot on her head. When it did open 3 days later, her head became very shifted. The doctors then said that it must be the way my uterus is made. She started PT two weeks after my older daughter finished as they are exactly 2 years apart. I do know that I have a very tilted uterus and lots of fertility problems, so that may be it also. So, probably not what you wanted to hear but I think it is good to know it does happen. Guest guest
, That's good to know. They told me after I had Isabel that I have a tilted uterus, but I never knew that before. Isabel's face is still smaller on one side though. So I'm guessing that's what the botox injections were for? Did you like the results. I didn't think there was anything else I could do. Well, thank you for the information. It helps to know. Daughter Isabel/tort,plagio > > > > Hi my name is and my daughter Isabel has torticollis and > > plagio. Guest guest
Hi, ! Both my children had torticollis too. I really think it often (not always) has something to do with the shape or size of the uterus. If you plan on having any more children after this next one, before you get pregnant again, you might want to consider having an HSG (Hysterosalpingography), an x-ray exam that might be able to tell you if the tort is because of something going on with your uterus. We discussed this in the group a while back. If you want to read what everyone had to say, do a search on the group for HSG. If I were you, I would start the neck stretches as early as possible on your new baby if you notice a tilt. You know the routine now since you've already been through this once, so your baby will have an excellent start. Good luck, and God bless! - Amy, mom to 15-month-old right tort/left plagio Starband baby Chloe and to 3-yr-old former right tort baby Eli > > > > > > Hi my name is and my daughter Isabel has torticollis and > > > plagio. Guest guest
There have been probably ten or so families w/non-multiples siblings banded in my 4 years on the board. In my time as a moderator, three moderators been through this. So, while it happens, the stats aren't too depressing at least! My kids were born 4 years apart w/plagio and the second having tort as well. They both were banded for severe plagio. I definitely think it has something to do w/my uterus or pelvis. Both kids even had the same dent over the same ear, which the doctor said was from my pelvic bone. I was determined not to go through this again w/a second baby. However, after a couple scares during my pregnancy and fertility issues before that, I'm just so thankful to have a healthy baby that it is really okay. I can't say we weren't bummed, it was sad to put the helmet on him and miss out on cuddling his head, etc, but like I told my husband, if this is the worst someone has to deal with they should be greatful. At least you know how to prevent it now, but if baby is born w/molding, you can help it from getting worse. When you are awake during the day you can let the baby sleep on his belly w/his head facing all the way to the sides. Alternating the sides then is a great way to keep ROM before they're old enough to be able to move. Good luck w/everything! , mom to Hannah (4yrs, DOCgrad) and Jack (6mos, DOCband #2 8/1) http://hannahsnoggin.typepad.com > > Hi my name is and my daughter Isabel has torticollis and > plagio. Guest guest
Hi, I have wondered the chances of baby #2 having plagio too as my first did and I too am due with #2 in February. This pregnancy, my uterus is tilted (wasn't with my first)...does this make it more probable? With my son, his tilt and tightness was SO slight that our ped. didn't see it and neither did we even after CT pointed it out at 3 months. CT said only a trained eye could see it with our son because of how subtle it was. > > > > > > > > Hi my name is and my daughter Isabel has torticollis > and > > > > plagio. Guest guest
Hi I have had two other children that were born without tort or plagio yet my third has it. I am also pregnant with my 4th baby and l asked our Dr the same question, he basically said to me that there is no way on answering this question and l understand it being a long road as Riley has just gotten his helmet 2 weeks ago and l am really struggling with leaving it on him the 23 hours like he is suppose to due to the red pressure points that he has been getting, but back to your question the only thing that my Dr told me was that they could do more scans but even then they cant tell for sure. But he did reassure me that it is not a hereditory thing as well if that helps Central QLD - Australia Riley Right tort and Plagio is the world's favourite email. Guest guest
Hi , Are the red pressure spots really dark or not fading? If so, Riley probably needs an adjustment. lisa > > Hi > I have had two other children that were born without tort or plagio yet my third has it. Guest guest
Hi ! I see that has been in PT for 2 years. How old is she now and when did she start her PT? Just curious because it seems to me that Torticollis is going to be a part of my daughters life for some time. She is 9 mos. and " delayed " in everything. However, she does seem to be " catching up " in many areas of development. I suppose I did not realize just how much work it actually is! I spend alot of forcing tummy time, sitting up, working her legs, stretching the neck, etc... The doctor/specialist never really addressed that with me. I was told that she had Tort. and never heard from the doctor again! Thankfully I have a great pediatrician, PT, and this website! I agree with you that we are all asymmetrical. My eyes are slightly asymmetrical as well! My little Ellies head, forehead, ear and eyes are getting better though. The helmet really works! It is a long process but worth it! Guest guest
Hi Kristi, had very severe torticollis diagnosed at 3 weeks of age and began PT at 6 weeks of age. We did PT once a week (sometimes twice a week) until she was 2 years and one month old. I also did stretches and strengthening at home 7-8 times a day and it was exhausting and so hard on , but she was my only child at the time and quite possible. always got worse with every milestone (sitting, crawling, walking) and worse when she was tired or sick and also when she had growth spurts. It was so frustrating and I thought she would never have a straight neck. She did actually do two injections of Botox at 15 months of age to loosen her tight muscles and then when she was 18 months, the PT's at Children's Hospital started doing a manipulation of her neck. They actually moved her C1 vertebrae over, slowly over a period time. It was something that has been done in other countries for years and is a little complicated to explain and was actually a little scary but it was truly a mircle for her. If you want to email me directly I can explain more. I do know other children who have seen a chiropractor for their torticollis. Our next step would have been surgery for so we were thrilled with the results and every doctor was surprised by the results! You are so right, all of this is such a long process, but so worth it. If someone had told me that was going to be in PT for 2 years for her torticollis, I probably would have cried. But, you just take one day at a time and now I don't even think about it anymore. Now, I just try to do the same with Abby, one day at a time. Good luck with Ellie's PT and hang in there, although there are ups and downs, has no sign of torticollis now! > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi my name is and my daughter Isabel has > torticollis > > > and > > > > > > plagio. Guest guest
They are red and they fade after about 8 hours but they are still there and you can see them, The helmet people told us we can put methollated spirits on them to toughen his skin but it has a very strong smell so l am not inclined to go down that road. He goes for an adjustment on the 23rd August so hopefully it will rectify then. Answers - Get better answers from someone who knows. Try it now.
