Guest guest
I expect she was referring to the national guidelines of 200 mg/Dl for heart patients. I believe the other numbers recommended are LDL< 100 and HDL above 40. cholesterol numbers Why would she say that a cholesterol total reading of 189 is not bad? That sounds terrible to me. Wouldnt a doctor suggest I start losing weight immediately? That was not suggested. What it 'sounds like to you' is not an effective way to make a judgment. There are dozens of sites you can visit to learn what are 'normal' cholesterol numbers. 189 total is not particularly high. More important, what is the RATIO between your LDL and HDL? That is far more telling. In fact if you had a 250 total cholesterol and 85 of it was HDL you'd be in really good shape. As someone with a 279 total cholesterol and 139 LDL and only 47 HDL, before zocor, I envy your 189. If you will educate yourself by reading up on cholesterol numbers and what they mean you will be far less anxious, and I don't think soy milk has much to do with anything...it's also quite fattening unless you get NON fat soy milk.
