We will be moving our daughter into one of these after our appointment on Wednesday, after 2 months of failed repositioning. Guest guest Posted December 15, 2007 Report Share Posted December 15, 2007 We chose DOC band because that is who our ped. referred us to. I was extreemly pleased with all aspects of Cranial Tech. The good thing about CT is all they do is band babies so they know their stuff plus they've been around the longest. I highly recommend them. With Star and Hanger, they may do other things besides bands so experience may vary. The important thing is to go with whomever you feel most comfortable with and whomever you feel will give your daughter the best treatment. 18 month old, DOC grad. > > I have been researching these both as much as possible. Guest guest Posted December 16, 2007 Report Share Posted December 16, 2007 We chose Starband because our doctor referred us there and I didn't know about other bands at the time. Lucky for us the ortho was very experienced and we had very good results. Here are some differences... Docband - It is lighter and covers a little less of the head, but works the same way as a starband (they both hold the prominent areas and direct growth to the flat areas where the band has extra room). Also Cranial Tech (maker of Doc) does only banding so their staff is generally very well trained. They have a very good reputation. Starband - The orthos who provide starband may do lots of bands or very few. Many provide other types of othotics too. Their experience varies widely. Experience is important in getting a good fit and good results. So you need to check out the individual ortho thoroughly. Guest guest Posted December 16, 2007 Report Share Posted December 16, 2007 Location as well as reputation. I feel that if you have a DOC band Cranial Tech within a two hour drive go for it. I live on Long Island near the major NY city and still need to drive 2 hours into NJ for care. I have a hanger on long island but no star band. I dont like the idea that Star bands are more in independent clinics although most users have had successful stories. I would go to Ct based on my successes, we are 6 weeks in the helmet. Started at 15 mm off are now close to done although my son is young and I am nervous about regression post band due to the fact that he will still not be mobile. I wish you luck visit Cranials website, contact parents who go to that clinic and keep informed. I know that DOC bands will be laser fitted soon as well, my son had the plaster, not sure what Starband uses. Where do you live? Good luck with whatever you chose!
