Hello I have a 15 month old with positional plagiocephaly from

sleeping on his back for several months(had heart surgery and was

unable to be moved) Dad and I asked about a molding helmet before he

turned one and they told us to wait to get his heart condition under

control we waited a couple of months before asking again and then was

told he was too old for a helmet. I've done alot of research and found

that the DOC band covers children up to 24 months has anyone started

their child on a helmet at 15 months or older if so can you please tell

me if any progress was made. I'm now desprate to find some more

information on older infants or toddlers with success of a helmet. I

refuse to give up!!! THANKS

I've heard some orthos will only band up until 12 mo, but many will

band until 18, or even up to 24. I would check around and find someone

experienced with older children. Where are you located? Maybe one of

the moms on the board would have some information....

There was a mom on the other plagio board in the past few months

(allaboutplagiocephaly) who had a band earlier and wasn't satisfied

with the results. she started with a new helmet (starlight) at 17 mo

and at 2 years is thrilled she decided to continue treatment. she said

it has made a huge difference. There might be some older babies here

too, I just can't remember at the moment.

my daughter started her first band at about 9 months and wore it to 12 months. at that time i decided to end treatment because i was not confident in the ortho treating her. after several months of back and forth, i decided to get my daughter a docband. she is 16 1/2 months and just got her docband yesterday. i am so thrilled. i know that progress will be slow and that nothing is guaranteed, but at least i know that i am doing all that i can. CT will definitely band your son, but don't wait another minute longer if this is what you really want to do. you will have to get a prescription from his doctor first though, but you can have a consultation w/o a prescription. good luck with whatever you decide. candice, nylilma11105 <lilma11105@...> wrote: Hello I have a 15 month old with positional plagiocephaly from sleeping on his back for several months(had heart surgery and was unable to be moved) Dad and I asked about a molding helmet before he turned one and they told us to wait to get his heart condition under control we waited a couple of months before asking again and then was told he was too old for a helmet.
