Darlene,

Yes, the blister part is from a weak immune system in Kira's case due to her body fighting such a massive infection which left her with little else to use. At least that is my understanding. They told us the main thing was to get the infection undercontrol, then next important was to rehydrate the skin. They have been coating her, and I do mean coating her with Cetaphil cream and washing her only in Cetaphil cleanser. You can get this over the counter at Walmart, but it is big bucks. Ours is 11.00 per 4 oz jar. It does go a very long way, but it is expensive. If you don't have the lactic acid problems you can use Acid Mantle as well, but just as expensive, they said Eucerine does not have enough rehydration to it. Dr. Boles said that it probably wouldn't hurt her being topical, she wouldn't get that much lactic acid from it, the Acid Mantle that is, but I wasn't willing to find out with her being so sick already. I think it is 12% lactic acid. Anyway this is what we have been told, and seems to have been working well for her. Her blisters are all dried up now, and the all over bumpy rash is much better. Hers started on her feet then went to her hands, then everywhere else. I thought she had hoof and mouth at first and took her to Ped who said it wasn't hoof and mouth but wasn't sure what it was. It makes me a bit mad that 2 doctors saw her and blew her off. It wasn't until she was at deaths door knocking big time that we got help for her. Have they run a liver function test at all? Just my suggestion to rule out since that simple test would have saved her and us a lot of grief. Anyway hang in there. She is still not home, but we are hoping soon. My youngest is having mommy withdrawals so I am home to try and help her out while dad takes his turn at the hospital. Ugh I can't wait to have everyone home again in one place.

Hugs

O.
