We have all either gone through what you are going through or are about to (which is correct in my case). What are you scared about? Talking with us and asking questions is probably a very good way of overcoming those fears. Because of my weight and genetics (my mother and brother have a similar problem and they are both fairly slim) my veins are impossible to find. So as you can imagine it takes multiple tries to get one vial of blood. My husband thought I was fibbing, until I fell pregnant with taylor and he came to some of my appointments with me and was shocked to see the lengths they would go to to get blood out of me. He is now used to having to drag me off to the pathologists and sit with me while I cry afterwards. Its not a pretty sight but I must admit there are only two things that will motivate me into having needles. One was having my beautiful gorgeous little boy and two would be to achieve my goal of losing weight. We all have to make sacrifices and sadly this is one of them. Try to think of needles as a stepping stone to freedom. Freedom from weight. I know it hurts and I know that it can be terribly frightening, but if you let this fear stop you from achieving your goal where will that leave you. One another thing that has helped me is finding a pathologist that I trust and can joke with. I make sure she is in the lab and make an appointment, she knows my fear, she knows where to start to find blood and she only uses other parts of my body as a last resort (and I trust that). I would prefer to wait 4 hours or four days than go to some @#%$!$*$* woman who makes me feel even more frightened than I already am. Anyway I hope this has not frightened you even more, but gives you courage to fight and attain your goal... Many many people don't have any feelings of fullness until they have had at least one fill, and often not until they have had three fills. The feeling of fullness you have felt prior to now was the swelling of your stomach from the surgery, but after that heals, many people feel practically no restriction at all. That was certainly the case for me, and indeed I did put back on 2kgs while waiting for my first fill. I am concerned that you are having fluids during the day and solids at night. The aim is to be having all solids, and no fluid calories at all. Fluids will not give you a feeling a fullness, which is why the concentration is on having solids, increasing in "solidity" as you heal from the surgery. For example, when you first start on solids, you have (for example) a weetbix with a lot of skim milk all mushed up (like baby food) and then, when that is tolerated (i.e. you don't feel like you are choking to death and have to vomit) you progress, eventually, to the stage where your weetbix is almost dry with only a bit of milk to moisten it. This type of weetbix will fill you up much more than the mushy one. That is how the band works. If you are eating solids, and having no liquid calories, and are still feeling hungry and waiting for your first fill, pull out some of your old diet tricks while waiting to see your doctor, like drinking lots of water, eating diet jelly, lowering your carbohydrate intake (not protein!) and the like. Please be assured that what you are feeling is perfectly normal. You may not get sufficient restriction and feelings of fullness until a number of fills, but remember, by taking it slowly you are less likely to have slippage. Hang in there! I found that if i stuck to my required amount of food, i was more than satisfied, but again did not have a full feeling in my stomach. I did however find that if i ate too fast ...it was painful....and on one or two occasions when i ate too much, i brought it straight back up ( it is amazing how fast you learn not to continue this behaviour...lol). I had a 1ml fill 6 weeks post op, and this has given me the restriction I needed, and so far has been good. Guest guest Posted June 2, 2001 Report Share Posted June 2, 2001 Hi Sooze, Things are mainly ok for me I can now sit and relax after a hell of 3 weeks my mothers house is finally cleaned out so I can now have time to my self and work on my weight loss I go and see peter on Monday the 4th, Halket said that its to early for me to have a fill as I am still a bit tender as I have not rested like I should have I have lost 9kgs so far but now I am having that time of the month you know the time all us women hate and it is heavier than I have ever had it I don't know if it is due to the band or due to everything I have gone through in the past 3 weeks Eating is not a big thing for me during the day it is at night when the family comes home but I am sure I will learn how to deal with this in time I put on a size 16 cargo pants yester day and I could do them up wow but a bit tight around the legs so a bit more to go and I know in my self that I will get there any way must run talk to you soon love Teala Re: Teala Hi Teala, Don't panic! Guest guest Posted July 8, 2001 Report Share Posted July 8, 2001 Hi Lyndy, No I live in Shepparton and I was done by Nottle in Melbourne I am sure I have done the right thing it's just that the past 2 months have been hell for me with having the op and my mum passing away the same day and now I am my disable brothers only career so my life is relay hard right now I have not looked after him with out mum around before so it's new to him and me I am sure I will get through it I am going to take him on holidays to lakes entrance with me in October and see how that goes.
