Guest guest
Hi - I hope you don't mind my responding to your message. I feel like we have so much in common, including our names! LOL My husband and I both had lap RNY on 1-27-03. We actually have been eating soft foods since week 2, including things like cottage cheese and scrambled eggs. I actually got sick of the pureed stuff (gag me with a chainsaw...the texture seriously makes me gag...I would rather not eat at all than try to choke that stuff down, no matter *what* it is!). We also have been advised that we can have anything (even red meat) as long as it's pureed. Well, I told you what happened with the pureeing...and I looked up " soft foods " in very many sources, and ground hamburger is considered soft foods! Of course, you still have to chew very well, but I've been eating ground beef for about a week and a half now, with no trouble whatsoever. Of course, every person is different, as are each of the surgeons, but we feel that this period of pureed foods is really kind of a " stepping up " from no food to the " adult food, " and have been testing foods accordingly. I have to say, I haven't had the guts to try anything hard yet (brave one, you!), but we've tried things like krab salad on crackers, peanut butter on toast, chili, soups, hamburgers, fish sticks, popcorn chicken, and so on. My mom, who works in the insurance industry, works with several women (16) who have had this procedure done, and she said she thinks it's all about common sense, but the surgeons kind of give themselves some leeway in the time area (4-6 weeks) just to make sure bone heads don't screw themselves up. My two cents (yes, you get change), don't beat yourself up! Just try to think about what you're eating, and take it slow. Try to stay away from the sugar and fats, though! Even if they don't make you sick, they will slow your weight loss dramatically. (At least, that's our experience). The other thing we noticed...we both hit a plateau on week three, and couldn't figure out why we weren't losing anymore. Then, my husband (brainiac, though he is...has too much time on his hands to think!) wondered if it was the lack of water we were drinking. He decided to test the theory, and after a week of no loss, in one day of drinking lots of water (like we're supposed to), he lost 6 lbs!! So, my question is...are you drinking like a good girl? If not...you might try it, and see what happens! At any rate...beating yourself up won't change the past. Focus on the future, and the things you have control over. It takes a lot less energy, and generally turns out better than dwelling on the past. Take care! in MT
