Guest guest
Wow Barbara, such a to do!!! I am one of the lucky ones I suppose, I have two ports. I have a port attached to tubing that goes directly into the large vein in my heart. It's the exact same material as the port for the AGB. I had it put in 4 1/2 years ago for chemotherapy. I've had this puppy flushed or accessed every three months for the last 4 1/2 years. Yes you must be disinfected thoroughly before accessing the port but as long as that is done there shouldn't be any problem. I've never heard of anyone going through what you do Barb. In fact last week I had both of my ports accessed and both of the procedures were done with the same type of disinfectant. Sounds like it must take you quite a while for your fills huh? Guest guest
Hi Everyone I was wondering what the usual wait is for the first fill. What makes a doctor determine it is time. Could some share with me when they had their first fill Thanks Laureen Banded July 10th Ballarat Vic
Guest guest
Hi Laureen, I had my first fill/inflation today - my doctor had made an appointment for me 4 weeks after the op but I delayed it 1 week due to work committments. I think it depends on your weightloss as to when the doctor will do the fills. Guest guest
Hi there My Doc would not contemplate a fill till 6 weeks after the op. It gave everything time to heal after the op. Then after the first fill depending on how you are going i.e. feeling restriction or not the timing of the fills are up to me. But if i did not feel the need of a fill I must see him in 3mths - for a check up. So far I have had 2 fills = 2.5ml and I thinking I need just a tad more, the scales havent moved in over 2-1/2 weeks. Regards Coral
Guest guest
> I was wondering what the usual wait is for the first fill. Hi Laureen, When I was first banded by Prof. O'Brien back in December 1998 the protocol was four weeks on liquids followed by four weeks on mushy foods progressing gradually to solids. At the end of that eight week period you got your first fill. I think that the regime has now changed to three weeks on liquids and three weeks on soft foods, so I guess the first fill happens around the six week mark. The idea is to wait for all the internal swelling from the operation to subside, and in truth that swelling in itself provides a degree of restriction in the early weeks following banding.... though of course this does vary with the individual. On the other hand, I am aware that there are doctors who actually fill the band when they first place it..... so I guess there is quite a range of different management styles. All the best,
Guest guest
> hi sooze > this is Teala I am now down 20 kilos and only 8 weeks post > op What wonderful progress you're making, Teala. Congratulations! I know from your previous posts that you have felt your weight loss hasn't been fast enough..... but it sounds to me as though you are well on track and certainly 20 kg in 8 weeks is rapid loss in anyone's book. Relax a bit and be proud of yourself. *Smile*
