Guest guest
Hi all. I had the psych eval for Dr. patterson. The doctors are Dr. Poole in Vancouver, WA, or Dr. Ude in Portland. I was referred to Dr. Ude because Dr. Poole was so booked up. She is very nice. The first day you take the MMPI which is a multi choice scantron type test that takes a couple hours, and a shorter eating evaluation test...like how often do you eat, do you try to diet, do you deny yourself foods you like, do you stop eating when you're full, do you eat when you're nervous, etc etc. Then the MMPI is scored which takes time. A computer scores it and spits out an eval of your personality type. Then the doctor reviews both tests. Finally, you have a one hour consult to discuss the results. I was surprised that the MMPI was pretty much right on about a lot of my personality aspects. Dr. Ude talked about my eating eval and the fact that I don't deny myself, etc. I said that I had been on so many failed diets in my life that for the past couple years I'd basically given up. She believed my personality was basically stable and that I had a good support structure with no current major trauma in my life, which is what they watch for. When she called to set the consult, I told her I currently see a counselor. She asked if she could speak to him and I said sure. She said she couldn't presume to know much about me in an hour and that it was very helpful to talk to Brett. So, it all went well. I still think it was stupid, but it wasn't unpleasant and hopefully my insurance will cover it. I could definitely imagine someone telling them what they want to hear, though, thus getting the surgery but not showing that problems would result. I still think psych evals don't do what the dr hopes they will...weed out people who will have problems post op or people that might sue :-) becki ===== Becki, near Portland, OR BMI 50-ish, age 42 pre-op DS. hoping to get approval through Aetna Traditional Choice Consulted with Dr. on 3-13-01 psych ok, nutrition ok, now on to insurance!!! beckeye_58@... __________________________________________________
