Guest guest
Does your daughter have torticollis? Torticollis can also cause the smaller eye on the affected side as it pulls on the muscles of the face. While the band can help to correct the smaller eye, if the underlying cause is torticollis and the torticollis goes untreated you won't see much improvement. Check with your dr. to see if there is a tort diagnosis. Molly California Nicolas, 22 months, tort & plagio, STARband 4/25/06-9/12/06, Graduate! , 4.5 , 7.5 Smaller Eye on Afftected Side - Anyone Experienced This? The clinician at Cranial Tech mentioned at my daughter's casting (last week) that she sees alot of cases where the eye on the affected side is smaller.... possibly due to the tissues being pulled or stretched from the plagio or brachy on the back of the affected side of the head. My daughter's left eye is smaller and higher set than her right eye. I'm wondering if the DocBand would correct the head and eventually the eye OR if she was just born this way. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks! (Mom to 4 mo casted for DocBand lasst week) For more plagio info
Guest guest
Yes my son Liam has this. We noticed it a long time ago but just figured it was an assymetry thing but the pt said the same thing. I assume it will be corrected with the band as the skin will not be as taught anymore due to a more symmetrical head shape.sisterofpie <sisterofpie@...> wrote: The clinician at Cranial Tech mentioned at my daughter's casting (last week) that she sees alot of cases where the eye on the affected side is smaller.... possibly due to the tissues being pulled or stretched from the plagio or brachy on the back of the affected side of the head. Guest guest
Yes - my daughter has the exact same problem... smaller left eye. The pediatrician said it will eventually correct itself and is a side effect of Plagio, for some children. Guest guest
My son ph (now 20 months) also had this problem. His pediatrician recommended that he see a pediatric eye doctor to make sure this was not affecting his vision. Luckily he received a clean bill of health. Apparently it is a pretty common problem with plagio. You may want to take your daughter to an eye doctor just to have her eyes checked out. - Ann Thyen <michelle_thyen@...> wrote: Yes my son Liam has this. Guest guest
My daughter's PT evaluated her yesterday and said that she doesn't have torticollis.... and I haven't noticed her having trouble moving her head side to side. I guess if you I think about it, it makes since that plagio and/or brachy could cause one eye to appear larger since the back of their head is either pushed in or their head is coney.... maybe this causes the tissues around the eye to be pulled or stretched??? - (Not sure) I really hope DocBand will help her left eye. Her left side of her face is slightly higher than her right side and her left eye is smaller. Thanks! (Mom to 4 mo old about to get her DocBand tomorrow). > > Does your daughter have torticollis? Guest guest
Hi, My dd, Ellie, Has severe Brachy and also has one eye that is smaller and not symmetrical to the other. We have been in the DOC band for 5 weeks now and I notice a significant difference in her eyes (and cheeks). Her eyes have definitely evened out and I anticipate that they will continue to do so. The variance in her eyes was very obvious at the start of banding and is now only noticeable when yuo look carefully. You can probably see it in her photos--under elliej. Good luck! , PHX Mom to Kalea and Ellie-Brachy/DOC banded > > The clinician at Cranial Tech mentioned at my daughter's > casting (last > > week) that she sees alot of cases where the eye on the affected > side > > is smaller.... possibly due to the tissues being pulled or > stretched > > from the plagio or brachy on the back of the affected side of the > > head. Guest guest
Thanks - one more question for you: did your Ellie have tight neck muscles or torticollis? If so, did you dilligently complete the stretching exercises (5X a day, a few sets of each of the 4 exercises)? I ask because, of course I'm intending to follow these instructions, but I work and I don't think my day care provider will do these stretches for her in my absence(of course I will do everything I can to make sure she gets these stretches in while she's home).... and I'm afraid that she won't get the benefit of the corrections in her smaller eye (and cheek - basically the left side of her face) Thanks again, Chris Mom to , 4 mo - banded today and CRYING in her crib right now : ( I'm feeling so bad. I really hope the DocBand works. > > > The clinician at Cranial Tech mentioned at my > daughter's > > casting (last > > > week) that she sees alot of cases where the eye on the affected > > side > > > is smaller.... possibly due to the tissues being pulled or > > stretched > > > from the plagio or brachy on the back of the affected side of > the > > > head. Guest guest
Hi Ellie did not have Tort, just a preference toward one side so we did not have to do PT. The band itself is what has helped her symmetry.
