Guest guest
I'm wondering if anyone has had the awful experience on coumaden I've had the last 7 weeks. I had never taken coumaden before my ablation, and had ablation on Oct 13. I was scheduled to take it for 3 months after ablation and had my INR tested every week. My INR was never above 2.0. The first trouble started a couple weeks after starting coumaden, every time I bumped anything I would bruise terribly. I ended up looking like I'd been in a train wreck with bruises everywhere. Then the nose bleeds started. I ended up having three uncontrollable nose bleeds that required trips to the ER. The last one occurred while we were on board our boat and several hours from a hospital. I bled for 5 hours until we could get the boat back to a marina and get to the ER and get it stopped. After the last episode my EP took me off coumaden stating the risk on the drug outweighed the benefits, since I'd only had one short run of AFIB (about 15 min) since the ablation. Just curious if anyone else has had the same kind of experience?? Bob
Guest guest
Hi Bob, Coincidence? I went through the same experience. The difference, I have been on Coumadin for over four years, and had a couple of nose bleeds before that were easily stoppable. But the last one got me to the ER 3 times with uncontrollable bleeding, by then my nose specialist kept me in the hospital. The location of the bleed was a tough one to get to and required supervision, besides, I too had lost quite a bit of blood. My doc believed it was less the Coumadin but more the location of the bleed that caused this kind of trouble. (of course, being on Coumadin didn't help) Scary, I agree. Am not sure what advise to give you. Right now I am hoping this is the end of it. Do you know where your bleeding started. Good luck, we both can use it / Then the nose bleeds started. > I ended up having three uncontrollable nose bleeds that required trips > to the ER. > Bob >

Guest guest
Bob, I can't say I've experienced such serious side effects. Once I did not excessive bruising so my cardio decided to change the dosage. Did the trick - no problem for 1 year. Good luck, Alyce Problems on Coumaden???
