Hi ,

How old is your baby? Regression is rare but it does happen. Was a

headsickle made of your baby's head at graduation?

Hello. I think that many of us who have graduates would agree that

there are still some times when we see the bits of " imperfection " left

in our babies heads. My Daughter graduated with 4mm cranial vault

asymm and 1.5 mm ear asymm, which I was (am) thrilled with, but there

are still times when I see her head at certain angles and wish it was

closer to " perfect " . Although, to be honest, no one (other than me)

would probably even know that anything was wrong with 's head.

We did see a little bit of post band rounding, and many people do.

Hang in there... I think as parents we are alwyas more critical of how

our babies heads look. Do you have pics to compare so you can see all

the improvement?

My son's head did actually round out a bit more after graduation. I

felt the same way as you did at first. Right after he got out of the

helmet, I thought he was regressing, but it ended up turning out OK.

He still has some areas that I notice, but those are mostly from the

tort and I'm not sure the helmet would have corrected that anyway.

brings up a good point and I'd like to ask a follow-up question to all of the helmet graduates out there... how many of you were told that your child could possibly use a second helmet, and of those who were given that option, who chose it? If you decided not to, what were your reasons? I'm just curious because at a recent visit to the craniofacial specialist we were told to come back in 6 weeks to see if our daughter (who is 10 months old and has had the helmet for about 6 weeks now) is all done w/ the helmet or if she might benefit from a second one. He said that due to her tilt and persistent flatness on the left/back side that might be a possibility. I just wonder if that's from the tort how much more correction could we really expect. I guess it's all going to depend on the measurements and how satisfied we are with the results at that time, but I'd like to hear from others. Thanks!Alison

  • 1 year later...

My daughter was in her DOC band for about three weeks when our dog

chewed it to a pulp. She is actully getting her new band tomorrow

morning (can't wait:) and two weeks have lapsed between bands. I was

seeing drastic improvement with the first band but these last two weeks

I feel like her head has gotten so much worse! This worries me! After

graduation does their head get worse? How much change have you noticed

since being band free? I am really really concerned.

Thanks for sharing your expriences with this!

Oh your dilemna sounds so much like me. My son wore a DOC band from

7.5-9.5 months. He graduated with 3mm assymetry. I constantly

thought his head regressed but my husband thought I was nuts (and so

did others). Finally, at 13 months I went back to CT and my son's

head had not regressed one bit. I think what happens (or at least

for me) is we look so intently at their heads once we notice any

flattening (which for me was 2 months). Then we reposition and hope

the head is getting better so we are constantly scrutinizing the

head until we band (for us 7.5 mos.). Then after the band we are

looking to make sure the head doesn't regress. I think so often our

minds are playing tricks on us. Another thought is that because the

head is growing in a new direction to even it out, it looks odd

throughout the process. I am sure your daughter's head has not

changed since the dog chewed her band.

Good Morning My son was in a Starband for 5 1/2 months, when he got out I swore he had regressed, however at a 6 week check up, there had been no change other than his head growing. I go back mid November to have a 6 mth check up and have been VERY anxious about it, but I honestly feel it will be the same thing, me over reacting....his head looks wonderful. I think it has to do with us mommy's being SO involved in our children's head shapes for so long, that our mind sort of plays tricks on us sometimes when there is nothing more to worry about (with the head shape that is, now knee scrapes are my new worry). I am sure that your daughters head has not regressed in 2 weeks, but luckily even if it has, it shouldn't be anything major and you'll be in the band again soon, with all the correction in the world in your future.
