I've been a member for awhile and have spent the last couple of

months " listening " to everyone and getting educated with all the

different terms. My name is Stacia. I'm 36 and currently living in

the St. Louis area. I'm a divorced mom of two boys, 12 & 13.

I found the lump myself while in the shower last May, but it wasn't

confirmed to be invasive ductile carcinoma until late June. The

radiologist who did the initial mammogram and ultrasound told me it

wasn't cancer. The core biopsy proved him wrong. He he he...I was mad

at the time, but find it amusing now.

My grandmother had it back in 1975, but so far has been the only person

in the entire family (barring me, of course) to have any form of

cancer. I had planned on taking the genetic test as I do have a sister

and niece, but my insurance is inadequate, so I couldn't afford it

financially. I have intentions on doing it later though. The medical

oncologist decided to give me my chemo first every 2-3 weeks (3 C/A & 3

Taxotere) to shrink the tumor (2.7cm) then have my surgery followed by

radiation. It's my understanding that this isn't the normal order of

things.

I had my lumpectomy on 10/24 and was kept overnight...two sentinel

nodes were involved, so she removed a total of 10 to be safe. Got the

drain out two days ago and I tell ya, relief is not spell Rolaids!!

LOL I have an appointment with the radiation oncologist 11/13 for my

initiation to the tattoo club and then about 30 sessions of that.

I wanted to thank everyone for their stories and helping keep my

spirits up. All the love and inspiration here has given me the feeling

that I wasn't the only one dealing with this mess. This and my sense

of humor has kept me going.

Hugs,

Stacia

Welcome Stacia! Sounds like you have a great attitude - half the

battle! Glad you're beyond the " listening " stage and into the

sharing stage. Warm welcome to you and I look forward to hearing

more from you.

I'm new here and for the time being am 'listening' and learning...

My name is Kayla, I'm 40 and originally began my information search after a

lifetime friend sat a few of us down and told us about her diagnosis.

since that time, I went in for my first ever mammogram at the tail end of

October-feeling great that I'd done it during the big Breast Cancer awareness

month.

Irony seems to follow me around in life. I got a call two days ago from the

hospital saying that I had to come back for a diagnostic mammogram and an

ultrasound on my right breast.

ly, I don't know what they saw or didn't see. I go in for the follow up

tests on Tuesday afternoon. They told me that follow up mammograms are not

uncommon when it's your first one. The ultrasound as I understand it, means

that they SEE something... right?

What can I expect, do you think, at this next appointment??? I know, it may be

nothing or it may be something.... it's just the something I guess I need to

prepare for.

I want to say thanks though, to allowing me to listen and learn!

Welcome Kayla,

They might just want to recheck to be on the safe side. An ultrasound will

definitely show if there is anything there and if its a cyst or tumor. Hopefully

neither. Do you drink/eat a lot of things with caffeine? I know that caffeine

can cause cysts.

Remember should there be a problem, breast cancer is NOT the death sentence it

was once thought to be. Ladies are living long productive lives and die from

something other than breast cancer. I had my surgery in 1990 and am doing fine.

I will keep you in my prayers.

>Hi Stacia

My name is Sandy from L.A.,Calif. I feel the same way. Reading

everyones stories are very inspiring and are making the journey so

much lighter. I look at the pictures and tell my sons,

" Let's introduce ourselves. I've lost hair once 2 years ago from

Interferon for my liver disease, so i'm looking forward to setting

another trend in my workplace...Dredlocks down my back-to a small

afro-skin!!!I try to keep the humor also. The darkest days for me

were hearing the diagnosis( and NEXT WOULD probably be the chemo). I

cried that day in the office 10-3-06 because the nurse called me at

work. I shed a couple of tears in pre-op because i didn't know what

to expect, but i sucked them up because i knew my sons were coming to

see me before i was carted into the surgery room. Other than this, i

try to be practical. Everything we do in life, requires a process, we

can't get around it...Have your favorite people, music, book,

scripture, food( mine is a pint of Chocolate Fudge brownie ice cream)

handy and make the best , out of the wait.God has our backs!!!

" To Everyone, there's a young black singer named India Irie who has a

song out, " I am not my hair, please try to find it and listen to it.

I copied 8 times and every morning from 10-6-06 to 10-17-06(surgery

day)I played it, because i didn't want to lose my hair.Since this

time I've gotten my priorities in order!!!

Peace and Love

Sandy

Hi Kayla- I have been called back many times for an ultra sound so many

times that I made it automatically part of my yearly routine. They may

have found a cyst and are looking to make sure it is a floating cyst(s)-

which are beign. The radiologist reading my report told me also to make

it part of my yearly check-up. Hopefully it is nothing- keeping my

fingers crossed. Just make sure you follow up- it was discovered that I

have DCIS- which is non-invasive on a yearly mamo. I felt great at the

time- there are no lumps associated with what I have- again best of

luck
