Water weight gain

Hi - I have had afib for about six years. I am 54. I have had three

cardioversions (normal sinus lasted about two years in each.) I went

to my electrophysiologist (I think that is the way to spell it) about

four months ago and he said new research shows that comverting a

chronic afib person back and forth does not do any good. I was also

on Amorodione (200mg per day) and he said the side effects for a long

term taker can be nasty. So, he took me off the Amorodione (which is

a medicine that helps your heart to stay in normal rhythm) and put me

on Coumadin and said he would see me in six months. Well, since that

time I have been gaining weight especially in my abdomen. I am taking

Lasix but I only have one kidney (I lost one to cancer) and my family

doctor doesn't want me to overwork my kidney. I am prone to holding

water weight. So, has anyone ever noticed water weight gain or weight

gain since they have been on afib or taken off of any rhythmic

medicine. I hope someone can share their situation with me. Thanks

for reading all of this...Darlene

Hi Darlene, taking Cardizem causes me to retain fluids, but it's not too

bad. I think the hormone replacement therapy I'm on is the culprit in

my case (I'm 58). Maybe some others in the group will have had some

experience with gaining weight around the middle since being in afib or

after stopping Amiodarone (glad to hear you're off it). Sandy

I have fluid retention in my abdomen. I'm on tikosyn now but a month ago I

was on sotalol. I was on it for two years. I'm hoping that changing meds

might help. I also take lasix (160 mg). My ankles don't swell just my abdomen.
