Hi , I am just being inquisitive now, are you doing this calendar project as

part of your job, part of a degree course or just as your own project?

I am sorry if I came across too businesslike but creating something and

marketing go hand in hand if you want to reach your target audience. (I can be

so Bossy ~ sorry) It comes from teaching the whole package.

I am arty too and painted myself with one breast ( when my reconstruction had

a hiccup, I was left with one for a few weeks) It acted as a catharsis at the

time but I found afterwards that it haunted me so waste of canvas and oil paint

and has been painted over since, (I am an art and design teacher ~ amongst other

subjects)

Go for it , you sound so determined and good luck, take care, Velvet (UK)

Velvet,

You raise some good points. The reality is, I may not ever be able to

complete this project, but I'm not going to prevent me from trying. I

may combine some ideas that I already have with yours and a few other

people.

Perspective is truly a personal thing to each and every one of us.

How could I ever presume to capture those perspectives in photos? I

can't, and I know that. However, and I hope this doesn't come across

as an argument, I do think the terror and pain, and all those things

you mentioned are important, not because we want to experience them,

but because they are part of the reality. The artist in me, won't

turn away from the goal, but the person in me is willing to look at

all the posibilites.

Something else you mentioned that I'd like to address: Sales. You may

not believe me, but to be quite honest, I had not even looked at that

aspect of this project. This is one of a few projects I have done

that " its not about the money " . If I see that I'm going to be able to

complete the calendar, and I feel it is worthy of the cause, I have

considered offering it to groups for fund raising, but as far as me

marketing and profitting - not with this project.

I hope this better explains MY perspective as I try to understand

yours a little bit better. Thank you for your thoughts and sharing

your feelings - it truly does help.

Velvet,

you came across as someone who was concerned that I would try to

portray something that I didn't understand and you were trying to

help me understand. Not bossy. Please don't think anything of it.

From 12 midnight to 12 midnight, Sunday thru Sunday, year by year I am

a husband, a father, and a grandfather (as of thee weeks ago - woo

hoo!). By day, I am a Systems Analyst/Project Manager. Evenings and

weekends I run my photography business. And in my spare time, I ... I

.... wait a minute...what spare time?

Yes, I agree that all ventures are about the bottom line, which in

most cases is money. In this case its not about money, its about

finding the bottom line. Kind of cryptic, I know. I guess what I'm

trying to say is that I don't think I'm doing this for money, I don't

think I'm doing this for art, and as I told someone else, I'm not

completely sure why I'm pursuing this at all. This project has been

nagging at me for a few years. It won't go away so I decided that

there is something I'm supposed to learn and that I need to quit

letting it nag at me and just go out and start it. For me, I think

the bottom line is finding out what I'm supposed to learn.

So far I've learned a lot, but I don't think it is a drop in the

bucket of what I'm supposed to learn. From the number of posts here,

I'd say that I stirred up a hornets nest, but the hornets aren't

stinging they are gentle, and kind, and caring, and loving, and open,

and honest, and... well let's just say that I'm overwhelmed with all

of you.
