Guest guest
I used to suffer with acid reflux almost every night and sometimes during the day too. I used to say I was keeping the Tums people in business. Not that Tums really helped much. It was like someone flipped a switch when I started South Beach. It was just gone. I think the change was mostly due to eating smaller meals throughout the day instead of one or two big meals, not eating as late and, probably most of all, losing weight. Whatever the cause I'm glad to have it gone. And my husband who used to snore up a storm especially when he was really tired, doesn't snore at all anymore. Again, I suspect it's mostly because of weight loss but eating a better diet and eating earlier at night sure hasn't hurt either of us. Cathy Chuck Kelsey wrote: > You beat me to it. Guest guest
Yes, it definitely is! Not to sound like an overly peppy, obnoxious SB cheerleader but for my husband I losing weight has almost been a secondary benefit to all the other positive changes. Like not having to suck in my stomach and hold my breath to bend over and tie my shoes anymore! I type a lot for work and I would have a lot of back and shoulder pain after a long day - also gone. Didn't expect the shoulder pain to be related to weight but I guess the extra weight just put a strain on my frame or maybe affected how I sat. There have been many, many side benefits to losing weight and eating a healthier diet that I didn't even imagine before SB. When I hear someone who is overweight complain of aches and pains, not sleeping well, or just generally not feeling good I wonder how much of it is related to weight and would be helped by healthier eating. Not that it's a cure all but it's sure a good place to start. It has definitely worked wonders for both of us. Guest guest
My acid reflux was so bad, I had two endoscopies earlier this year. I felt like Ashlee Simpson on Saturday Night Live, with no voice. I couldn't talk let along sing, because my vocal chords were burned. I was sleeping on a wedge, avoiding acidic foods, avoiding the " big three " (chocolate, caffeine, alcohol) and it barely helped. I cut down on nighttime eating when I started SBD and it helped a little. Then, around early September, it went away. I started to be able to eat chili and spaghetti sauce and nuts and all this good stuff that I hadn't eaten in ages. I could even have evening snacks. This past couple weeks, I'm having trouble again. I have slept on my back or side for years because of having a bad back. It was always so painful to my back if I slept on my stomach. Well, since losing all this weight, I've been able to sleep on my stomach this whole past month. I think that is what is causing the reflux. I am so cozy on my stomach, I slide down off the wedge and am laying flat. So, I have to watch that. Maybe when I take off more weight, I'll be able to handle sleeping on my stomach without getting reflux. ann > > I used to suffer with acid reflux almost every night and sometimes > > during the day too.
