I have been on the diet now for five days - I started last Thursday.

I'm doing well, but forgot a family ritual! Every Sunday night, my

family sits down and watches The Sopranos on HBO. My husband makes

homemade pizza (the world's best)that is out of the oven just before

the opening credits, and we have a beer in a frosted mug. Sound good?

This has been going on the same way for about seven years! We

started with Star Trek Next Generation moved with the first episode of

the X-Files (on Fridays way beck then)and came over to the Sopranos

when " X " started to wane. I can adapt a little, but do I have to

upset the whole weekly family renewal thing? I will, but is there any

way to have the pizza and the diet too? So far, no carbs today - I

wanted to wait to hear from you in case I needed to save them up for

this evening!

This sounds sill I know, but to me, it's an emergency!

Thanks!

, we love pizza and my husband also made a pretty good homemade pizza... So now what we do is get a non stick pan and spray pam on it and put down some sauce and then add the cheese and what ever else you want to put on it... it is really good and smells like a real pizza. just no crust...

Well, I can see the advantages, but isn't there an Atkins muffin or

other bread recipie that can be incorporated into pizza?

... Here is a recipe I have saved. You can also use bake mix for a

crust if I strongly prefer a pizza crust. I have also tried a meat crust

that worked pretty good. Most times I'm just happy with the toppings.

\?Adria's pizza casserole.

Lots of work, well worth it

layer pepperoni one thick covering a plate, top with mozzarella, nuke 2

minutes,

cool

do the same thing, 3 times all together..for three layers..

I make a pizza sauce with tomato sauce, oregano, garlic, splenda, you know,

the

usual, I like my sauce a little sweet, so splenda..

so I take a round cake pan, slide in pepperoni and cheese layer number one,

top

with sauce, layer number 2, top with sautéed veggies, a little more sauce,

top with

layer 3, bake in the oven for just a bit, till browned, and slice into

portions..

Pizza: as others have mentioned, you can have the cheese and toppings,

and there are several kinds of Atkins-friendly crusts you can make.

There's the no-crust variety Mike just posted, there's meatloaf-like crust

(ground beef + eggs, bake, add toppings, bake again-- I used to do this a

lot, but I forgot the recipe. If memory serves, it was 1 lb ground beef,

1 egg, 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, spread flat on a cookie sheet and bake,

then drain, top & bake again). there's quiche-like varieties, and then

there are the things you can make out of atkins bake mix or even order

these mixes online that are supposed to resemble bread crusts.

Beer: I'll occasionally partake in 1 Amstel Light. Amstel's the only

light that I know of that's actually really good. It also has carb count

right on it: 5g per bottle. It's not packed full of preservatives, which

give me headaches and stall some people...

In general, there will be lots of family rituals that you may need to

re-shape for the diet. Every year on my birthday I get an Atkins

cheesecake. I've replaced chips & dip with cauli & tgi friday's

spinach-artichoke dip, or phillip's crab dip, both are in the freezer

aisle. Pizza was a big deal for me to replace early on, but I can't

remember the last time I went to the trouble-- I'm certain it's been more

than a year. Mexican food was big to me, too... but when I need to do

that I make up a batch of taco meat and put that and cheese and sour cream

& salsa in a piece of romaine lettuce. I'm allergic to both turkey and

ham, so my parents and I have made Thanksgiving a beef & scallops feast,

outright replacing the very traditional with something completely

different. What's important is spending the time with the family and not

feeling deprived. My family was supportive in accepting changes; and it's

not like I was asking them to eat Alpo, either.

We'll be here for you, too, as you face those times when " eating just like

everybody else " seems to be soooo important. You really can get through

it and stay on plan.
