Try calling one of your local Early Intervention providers that give

respite. Even if you do not get respite, EI providers usually

contract with individual that provide the actual care. They have

lists of care-givers who have specialized training and you may be

able to find someone who will care for your son and daughter, that

has more understanding of what he needs.

We try to use my MIL as much as possible. However, sometimes she

can't watch them and we need a sitter. We have been lucky and found

a girl (she'll be 16 soon) that is willing to watch the kids. She

does better than the average person because her older brother has

issues also. I don't know what his Dx is, but he has had a lot of

the same problems as my kids. So, she understands my kids.

Maybe you can find a sibling or mother that has family experience

with AS issues (or something similar). They would probably do well

watching your son.

Good luck.

Any universities near you? Some students are being trained as

special needs teachers and might want some experience.

Ok, now bear with me, remember I am still new to all this! By Early

Intervention

providers...do you mean the school district? The only other place available in

the area is

called Rehab Resources-who did the evaluation on my son last week. And I'm also

unsure

what you mean by respite care....sorry......! I feel kinda dumb tonight!!

Thank you for your help!!!!

Thanks for your help Kirsten!

Unfortunately we're 2 hours away from most all family, so that tends to not be

an option :-

( I'm still pretty new here, and don't know a lot of people, so that's

another strike

against me, which literally sucks! LOL

Thanks for your help!

Sorry it took me so long to see this, I have been out of town. By

Early Intervention I mean the Part C of IDEA(Individuals with

Disabilities Education Act)birth-3 programs for children with delays

and disabilities. There should be a program that serves your area.

Try calling the local school district and ask who your local Birth-3

agency is. Or you can also try an adult program as many also do

birth-3. Respite is care contracted by the state (and paid for by

them as well) for children with developmental needs that is designed

to give the parent a break from a child that needs constant

supervision.

Hi ,

Our Ped thought we were crazy also. It took us moving to Kansas from

California, luckily finding a very aggressive Ped to give us the RX.

We could of had Jacks Helmet months ago. You are doing the right

thing. I found this website last night and I haven.t been able to keep

off it.

Good Luck with your appointment!

Hi, cranial tech has a great reputation and you should see good

results. I don't know why so many peds say it will round on its own -

there are tons of moms on the older plagio group who will disagree.

Even with banding my daughter's head isn't perfect (but looks good).

How old is your baby?

do you know if your insurance will cover the band? they may cover ct

or some other provider. If the don't cover any you may as well go with

CT. However you might want to call them and check your options before

you decide. banding is expensive ($3000?) if you have to pay on your

own. We had a starband that was covered by our insurance. it differ

widely. some insurers refuse to pay at all and many parents appeal (so

me win, some done).

let us know how it goes on the 13th.

Season - where at in Cali? I am in So Cal and going to the Toluca

Lake location.

My daughter is 6.25 mos old and I started questioning her ped at 2

mos. I decided to give it some time too, which I now regret. I

should have just gone for the consult to see what they would say

back then. My ped wanted me to wait till 7 mos. So I got online

last night and nearly freaked out that I have waited this long.

My whole thought process is that I have the ability to fix this

problem even tho it may not be medically necessary. I feel that

with kids being so dang mean nowadays I need to prevent her from

having deformities as mild as they may be. Plus - what if she needs

glasses and they have to make them custom cause one of her ears is

an inch behind the other?????

And then the dreaded - " mommie - why is my face shaped funny? "

eeek - I don't want to have to answer that question!

Thanks for the help - I feel somewhat lost here. I am sure I will

be well educated by next week.

I think as a mother you should always go with what your gut is

telling you. We want the best for our children and we do not want

them to be made of for any purpose when they are older. I think you

are making the best decision. If you feel that there is something

wrong, it is always best to get a second opinion. We had three

opinions before we decided to go forward with a helmet for our son.

Season,

I live in Camarillo

and went to the Toluca

Lake (Cranial Therapies)

too. They are wonderful. I had my daughter banded at 6 months and she graduated

at 9 months. It wasn’t as bad as I thought. Good luck to you!

I saw and she was VERY caring and

knowledgeable. I highly recommend them. The drive is worth it! You can check

out the before and after under “C” for Charlene. They may

still be under “New Photos”.
