Guest guest
I just wanted to let you all know what an RHS helmet is and why my son has one. I just moved to Tennessee from Los Angeles and didn't know any other brand than DOC. I just assumed that was what he would be getting. Well, my doctor told us that the brand is either not approved or available in the area. I live in the Nashville area. My doctor designed a helmet that he has RHS fit for his patients. It is a passive (no pressure applied) helmet. It looks a lot like a baseball helmet and is totally closed at the top. It's bulky and practically touches his shoulders. I feel sad because I can't touch the top of his head. Apparently, kids have gotten great results from this helmet and it's the only option in the area anyway. I'm not crazy about the way it looks, I think they could have made it much cuter, but there isn't anything that could make my son look less cute anyway. I have not seen any helmet like this really on the site and the helmet costs the same amount as the rest of them. I hope it works just as well!!! I'll post a picture under " L " - his name is Lyons. Guest guest
He's adorable !! I am an old time member of this group and remember quite well a member using the RHS Helmet many yrs ago...if I remember correct, her baby had good correction w/the RHS helmet (it's been so long though, I could be confused!)..I chked out our group band/helmet database & did find a couple email addresses from member's who used the helmet in the past - don't know if you want to get in touch w/them or not, but I thought I'd pass the info along if you were interested. Again, good luck w/the helmet!! Guest guest
, I know how you feel about not being able to cuddle to his head, and kiss it when you want to. But he looks so cute in his helmet, and it's only temporary. Hopefully he won't have to wear it for too long. It does look a little bulky, but if others are getting good results, that's all that counts. Just kiss him enough for the day during the hour when the helmet is off. Hope the helmet doesn't bother your little one too much! > > I just wanted to let you all know what an RHS helmet is and why my son has one. Guest guest
Thanks for your feedback on the helmet everyone. It IS bulky, but you guys are right that a lot of his sleeping issues could be baby things and not just helmet things. I am getting used to it now too and it's true that if you try to have fun with it that the time goes by faster. I am now picking out outfits to match his helmet. haha. Can't believe it has been 11 days already!!!!! > > > > I just wanted to let you all know what an RHS helmet is and why my > son has one. Guest guest
Hi , My daughter wore a starband with little pink and purple bunnies. I picked that pattern since she had so many pink and purple clothes. It is nice if you can sometimes just think of the band as a fashion accessory :-) Actually after a while you'll forget he is even wearing it until someone point it out to you. -christine > > > > > > I just wanted to let you all know what an RHS helmet is and why my > > son has one. Guest guest
My son is also in the RHS helmet (6mo old, tort/plagio), and we go back tomorrow for our 1 month re-eval. I think that I can tell some improvement, but I am anxious to see what the doctor says. I know what you mean - it does just seem so bulky at times, but making it fun definitely helps speed up the process, as does the cooler weather! I hope your little one is adjusting okay - I think my son did better with it at first than I did. Now we are all more used to " the hat. " Good luck - I really hope that your son does well with it and won't have to be in it too long - Martha Ann > > > > > > I just wanted to let you all know what an RHS helmet is and why my > > son has one. Guest guest
Hi there- I just saw your post and thought I would answer you, too. My 6 month old son is also in an RHS helmet. It most definitely FDA approved - I had a long talk about it with the orthotist at one of our visits. Guest guest
Martha Ann, I'm glad to see someone else on here with an RHS. How does your look? I know we thought it was a little " rough cut " . I don't know...I guess for the money I expected it to look a little nicer, but in the end I really only care if it WORKS. Maybe once the inner layers are peeled away it will be more comfortable for the babies. How is your baby coping with it? > > > > > > > > I just wanted to let you all know what an RHS helmet is and > why my > > > son has one. Guest guest
Hey cool, lots of other RHS people! I was wondering if any of you know how the exit process works. Like if I am happy with the baby's head, can I just stop going to the doc. I'm sure you all know how expensive each visit to him is. Guest guest
Jen, Juju is so adorable in that helmet! It really helps when other people post pictures of their babies in the same helmet because I just felt like nobody else knew the exact experience of this particular type of helmet since it's so different from the band. Make sure you get lots of opinions on her head - we don't always see what others see. -- In Plagiocephaly , " sherrod_jennifer " <jen2@...> wrote: > > Hey cool, lots of other RHS people! Guest guest
- I thought the exact same thing at first when we recieved our helmet (for some reason, we just don't call it that at home - we call it the hat!) - it seemed a little rough around the edges. I agree with you, completely, though - my very next thought waswho cares as long as it works!! I have to say, I have seen lots of different types, and like you I am sure, read everything I could get my hands on before we started this whole process. Although it is on the bulky side of the options out there, it does seem to be one of the most comfortable ones for the babies. I have read many other comments about other products (which I know are goo, too) that move/slip over their eyes, etc. It is nice to know that when he is asleep, that there doesn't seem to be any way that thing is not moving around in the bed over his face at all. It does make it a little challenging to hold him sometimes when he is really squirmy. My little guy really has adjusted very well - my husband and I have said many times that he has done better than we expected (and better than we did at first!). We had to go back 2-3 times in the forst week or so - there were a couple of spots that were too tight. Once we got that settled, things have moved along smoothly. Dr. thought today that he had already made some progress. It's subtle, but I can see it, too. My older son (3y) and I went shopping for stickers to decorate the hat as soon as we got it - he thought that was cool! Let me tell you - that has definitely helped with the cute factor - it really breaks the ice with people, too. We found that stickers with a clear background seem to do better - in fact, I can't believe how long they have stayed on. Even my husband was saying tonight how much that helps it look less clinical. Please know you are not by yourself - this is quite an adjustment. One of my favorite things on the planet is to rub his sweet fuzzy little head, and I have missed that. I just hope that by doing this now, that little head will be better for it. How old is your son? Is he doing okay with the hat? I don't know if I got to read your original post. We had recently started with some sleeping changes, too, but I think those are independent of the hat. Sorry for such a long answer, but I hope this helps! Guest guest
You know, that is a really good question! I have no idea - we have just been in ours for a month, and honestly, I have not thought that far ahead yet. If anybody knows, I would like to hear about it, too.
