Guest guest
Steve/everyone, You mentioned that you think 3 is too young to have reconstructive surgery. Do you feel this way for both the medpor implant and the rib method? I understand why you would say this regarding the rib method (rib cage size). I also realize that growth of the other ear (in unilateral cases) is an issue with the implant method. I guess what I would like to know is...Do you disagree with having the implant surgery at 4 or 5? And do you think 8 or 9 is the optimal age for rib? In addition, lately it seems that most of the people on the list are favoring the rib method. Is this because you feel that the outcome is better in the long run? Or because you favor the Doctor who does the rib method? I was very hopeful when I found out about the implant method. It seemed so much less invasive and having it done sooner rather than later makes a great deal of sense to me (for both physical and emotional reasons). But, lately I feel discouraged. I do know that I need to meet all the doctors for myself and make my own decisions. But, I have a great amount of respect for the opinions and experience of the members of this list and feel that I am in need of clarification regarding the lack of enthusiasm for the implant method (if indeed it is a lack of enthusiasm). Thank you for being so open. It means a great deal to us. (& Lily)
