Guest guest
Hi all... It has been a while since I have written to the list, work has been busy but it is not cause I am ignoring you all!! It has been great reading about everyone success over the past few weeks. On August 2nd, I had my band restricted, It was a non-event. I had my self so worked up over nothing. No Dr. Greenstein did not have a bagel hanging out his mouth but he did squirt saline at me when he was done! I did get a chance to see Tina, Sandy and Joe and pushed the list during the support meeting. (Tina is looking awesome!) Next time I will make up flyers so people can find us! It was funny, after the adjustment, Sandy, Joe and myself went out to breakfast and we all watched each other eat. I do not know what we expected but you would have thought we were waiting for a miracle to occur or something! The two of them dragged me on a million mile hike through Central Park... ok it was not a million but hell it felt like it! On that Thursday, I had to go to the Dr.'s office and I jumped on the scale... it had not moved and i almost feel apart! I know that i have done well but for the past four or five weeks, it has moved VERY little.. so this did not make me happy at all. I have sworn off the scale for a while, so I do not make my self nuts (well more crazy then I already am) and really watching what I am eating. A few weeks ago someone brought up Greenstein and the BS he dishes out, I did want to point out that yes he has a MAJOR ego, but he is an awesome surgeon. He is not going to hold your hand when you need it but will be their for you as a Doctor no matter what time it is. I had my three month follow-up with him the last week of July, after the weigh-in and medical stuff, we just sat and talked. I really did enjoy and learned alot from what he was saying. I still have no comment on the dietitian. I hope every one is having a good summer and enjoying the outdoors.. Kisses & Hugs Kim

Guest guest
Kim, I am concerned about your update as you have not lost much weight in the last few weeks you said. I'm having this surgery Oct 7. Could you (make me feel better and) let me know how much weight you have lost since you had the surgery? Steph. Guest guest
Dearest Kim..... You are too kind!!!! thanks soooo much!!!!! I've been meaning to write for some time. I had my 2nd adjustment on 8/2/98. I had been so pleased with my surgery up until then. I've only lost 32lbs. in 5 months but it has been pretty steady and I didn't really feel like I was on a diet(which is very important to me). When I saw Dr. Greenstein on 08/02/98, he informed me that I only had .7cc in my band and he was only going to give me.8cc. which brought me up to 1.5cc.(I thought I had 1cc and he was going to give me another 1cc.)He explained to me that the problems that he's seen with the band are usually with young healthy females with regular periods and made me promise that I wouldn't ever overeat. He feels that the problems are caused because we (menstruating females) do not form enough scar tissue and that the surge of monthly hormones can promote slippage. I trust him and think he's an excellent physician but I'm getting frustrated. I feel the only difference the adjustment made is that I'm having a harder time getting food down but I can still eat as much as before. I'm also finding it harder to make the right food choices. WHAT'S MY PROBLEM?? I sure hope I can get back on the wagon because I really wanted to lose another 30lbs. by November. I'm sorry to vent to you guys but I figure if anyone can understand, you guys can. What prevents all of you from going back to bad eating habits?(I guess you can tell I'm having a very bad week). I hope all of you are doing well. You're all a tremendous help to me and I'm very thankful to belong to a support group like this. XOXOXOXO, Tina
Guest guest
Tina wrote " What prevents all of you from going back to bad eating habits?(I guess you can tell I'm having a very bad week). " Dear Tina, Who says we have good eating habits, LOL. I for one sure don't. I knew before the surgery I wouldn't. Why would I be able to change everything I have failed to do for years just because of the band? But you see, the beauty of the band is, that even though I still eat my cakes (yum) I am losing weight. Isn't it great? Now for those of us who can actually change their ways completely and only eat healthy food, congratulations. But I know I can't. I still eat the same things I used to, but I cannot get as much of it down anymore. Now to your weight loss: 32 lbs in 5 months is better than nothing, isn't it? Ask yourself if you would have been able to lose that much (and keep it off) on a regular diet. I know I wouldn't be able to. I also would love to lose all my excess weight overnight, but it is just not going to happen. My doctor says it will take two years...so I still have another 20 months to go. The experts even say (and we do not really want to hear this) that it is not good to lose weight too fast, as the body thinks it is being starved and once we lost the weight wants to get back to the initial weight. But as you do, I also set myself goals. I had my second adjustment last Saturday and I now want to try and lose about 20 lbs until the end of September. I seem to have enough willpower to " be good " for 4 -6 weeks. I reckon that if I do these diets within the next 20 months I should be able to get down to my goal weight. Guest guest
All of us have bad days, weeks. The key is in your dietician/nurse. My nurse, calls me on a regular basis to motivate me. holding grandbaby now...my doc has no failure rate and only 1 slippage due to food poisoning/barfing. it is in the followup counseling that success is acxhieved. will write more later when donovan tyler goes home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Success=Hope for the Best, Prepare for the Worst.
