Guest guest
how do you keep from getting engorged when your kid sleeps through the night? I'm thinking that I've heard that you should wake the baby to eat if he's not waking on his own until he's about 6-8wks old. Some others here would have the amount of time it's safe to go during the day/night but I think 3weeks is really too young to allow to sleep through without a feeding. Especially when you're needing to get your supply regulated. Fawn
Guest guest
Some one told me not to because I am still regulateing my supply. I probably could have woken him up several times because he would stir and grunt a little but would always go back to sleep. Needless to say when he woke up this morning he was ravinous! But he only nursed about 10 min. and then fell asleep again and there is NO waking him up! He is a very hard sleeper and unless he is on the verge of waking already, he is out for the count ) ! He is usually asleep by 9:30 at the latest. And I go to bed around 11 lately, because I have to stay up to see what is going on in the stupid presidential election! I wish it would get over already, I can't sleep! LOL!!! THanks Kim! Growth spurt Why were you told not to pump in the first 6 weeks? I had to express once and awhile for the same reason as you in the first couple of months and it never did any harm. What time does he go to bed? Can you maybe wake & feed him just before you go to bed?KimB Last night my 3 weeks old son slept through the night! I think he is in the sleepy fase of a growth spurt. But even if he isn't, how do you keep from getting engorged when your kid sleeps through the night? I have been told not to pump for the first 6 weeks, but last night I HAD to! I couldn't even move my arm right without it hurting, and I soaked through too pads on each side! He has also been missing feedings durring the day too. Should I just pump on schedule? What is all of this going to do to my supply? Give the Gift of Life Breastfeed!http://www.lactivist.com
Guest guest
I would think just pumping enough to make you comfortable wouldn't hurt. You wouldn't want to start a regular pumping session until then maybe. Michele Some one told me not to because I am still regulateing my supply. Guest guest
I agree with Fawn. When you do need to pump a little, just save some milk up! Guest guest
, Your ds just went through a growth spurt--based on schedule--pump as needed to relieve fullness/engorgement, but not more, until you figure out his new schedule. If he routinely sleeps through the night, your milk supply will adjust. Amy Lynnmother to 1-25-98 and 2-10-00Want great toys? If you pump too soon, you make your body think you need more milk than you really do therefore causing an oversupply problem. I started pumping at 4 weeks without supply problems. I think it's a YMMV thing.
