Guest guest
Dear Friends, I just saw the surgeon in NY who will be taking a muscle biopsy, which will then be sent uptown right away to Columbia. Is the new mito code 758.9? I have to let him know as soon as possible, since we have to get permission from PA Blue Cr/Blue Shield. Also, he wants to remove a lipoma I have which is adjacent to the deltoid muscle in my shoulder. (I have had it several years, but seems to be getting bigger recently. It is the size of a large plum.) Do you folks think this a good idea? How smooth did the recovery go after lipoma removal? Also, my right shoulder seems to have a slight fat layer, while my left shoulder does not. Would the right shoulder bx then be more diagnostic, in your opinion? In 1999, they found a vacuole, which Dr. Hirano from Columbia said was very " unusual. " I have read since that vacuoles are common in inclusion-body myositis. My endo, who gave me a provisional dx of mito in 1998, still thinks that I may have some form of myositis. But my deafness fits the mito pattern much more closely. Kindly give me your imput, especially regarding the coding. As always, I appreciate your help! Gatefully, S. PA
Guest guest
I don't think there is yet a specific code, but the one you have listed is for mitochondrial myopathy. Many of the mito docs use 277.8 which is metabolic disease. Some also use 639.4 which is metabolic myopathy. I think that the 277.8 is probably better because opens the door for body systems other than muscular. laurie > From: BDS31@... > Reply-To: > Date: Thu, 7 Oct 2004 13:15:22 -0400 > To: > Subject: New mito ICD code?
