We *do* need a new gate, it's just pulling teeth for dh to do it and I've been sick. Time to get busy I guess.

Re: Re: Multi-level house

I would like to mention here that when I had a licensed dayhome, my rules said that I could have up to 3 stairs ungated. They way my stairs were configured I had one step up to a landing, then 3 stairs before there was a solid wall to anchor a gate to. The kids all learned to climb them very well, they loved to crawl up and sit on the step below the gate. My dd never fell down the stairs because she had a few to learn how to climb.

Make sure you use a wall mounted gate at the top of stairs but you can use a pressure mounted gate at the bottom if you like.

Rowan is almost 8 months and we have not babyproofed yet, we get so busy on the weekends when dh is available. But I'm insisting on it this weekend, we are just lucky that he isn't moving at all yet. He's just happy to sit lol

Nope, can't afford that lol We live in a rental townhouse so we don't care if we match. Dh has done this for our previous two kids, he is just being lazy this time ;-) We have a gazillion wires under my computer which is in the livingroom that he has to straighten out and get out of harms way..... that's a whole day's work in itself.

If you can afford it then you could hire someone to do this. We have a friend who owns a childproofing company. He is an ubelievable carpenter that has decided to fill this niche. We have a large house, on four floors, with *lots* of stairs, lots of tall book cases, etc. He came and installed gates at the top of the stairs, which was complicated because there was no good place to do it -- so he installed maple strips that match the maple gates and then put the gates into those. He attached all of our bookcases, armoires, bureaus and even the changing table to the wall. In our playroom we have a long wall of cabinets, bookcases, etc that are very heavy and go almost up the ceiling, as well as a murphy bed. He figured out how to safely fasten these to the wall and deal with the murphy bed, too. We installed our own cabinet locks and stuff like that , but the carpentry would have taken us forever. "paused" at the top of the basement steps for two weeks before the gate went up, and that was after she'd been crawling for several weeks. She cruises now, which is even more dangerous. I'd say we've had mobility since seven months--much earlier than with our first--so I'm envious of you.

We did the wires moving in to this rental, the cabinets came next to keep ds safe, then we had a five month break til dd needed to be protected from herself.

A tip--I used for my curtain rods--team up with a friend and work on each others--one works the other child minds, then swap.

I am glad he is slower since he's my last :-) My other two were cruising the furniture at this age and walking at 10 months.
