Guest guest
Hi , i would leave it off , you don't want a miserable baby , i'm about to band my 7 month old and i'm so worried about the whole sleep issue , he already wakes every three hours to eat so i'm not sure what the band will do at night time and i'm worried about it , and concerned it won't be doing it's job just during the day . I'm sorry i don't have any experience with this but it's just what i would do if i was in your position , i mean you did try for a month , that's a long time ! Helmet off at night? My son got his STARband Aug. 1st and adjusted quite well after the first few days of fussiness. We've seen great improvements in his head. We have no problem during the day, naps are shorter but manageable. However, we are having a sleep issue. My son has slept 8-10 hours through the night since 8 weeks of age. I knew to expect some disturbances at first, but he has been waking every 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours at night. We were up with him 6-8 times every night. I've had NO sleep for almost a month. It was worse than when he was a newborn. I brought this up to our orthotist and it was recommended that we remove the band at night for a few weeks to see if it was in fact the helmet causing the discomfort or it was teething, sickness, growth spurt, etc. We took it off Friday (the 24th) and it has been off every night since. He has slept 10-12 hours through the night EVERY night! Needless to say, it is the helmet.I worry that having the helmet off at night will be counterproductive to what the helmet is doing during the day. Our orthotist is not concerned, but I can't find ANYONE who has done this sort of therapy (removal at night). Won't this extend wearing the band?? He's a much happier baby and I'm a rested momma, but I don't want to make things worse. What would you do? Pinpoint customers who are looking for what you sell. Guest guest
I am so sorry to hear he isn't sleeping well with his band. In my opinion i would try to keep it on him at night. Babies grow at anytime of day or night. You wouldn't want to miss a growth spurt while it was off. I know going on no sleep is horrible. Good luck and please keep us updated. Guest guest
My daughter got her band this last friday August 24. She's also slept 8 to 10 hours since she was 9 weeks old. Friday and Sautrday night were a nightmare, she was waking up every 2 to 2.5 hours nad she was miserable during the day she couldn't even nap more than 10 minutes. Saturday night she fell asleep on her side....it was working somewhat, but in the morning we noticed her eye area was swollen....so no more sleeping on the side. on Sunday morning I was playing with her on the floor watching TV and it was bottle time, I put a pillow to prop her up a little for her to drink her bottle....and SURPRISE! she FELL ASLEEP! i got up, her dad walked in and NOTHING she was GONE! I think her issue was since the helmet is hard, her neck wasnt being supported when she layed on her back...so SUNDAY night I put a pillow in her crib kinda like a " fluffy mattress " and she sleeps her normal 10 hrs, she takes her 45 to 1 hr naps ...sometimes even longer. Guest guest
To make the crib more comfortable for sleeping you can try putting memory foam on the mattress. We put it directly on the mattress, underneath a waterproof pad and the sheet. This really helped my son sleep better at night with his band. You can a twin-size piece of memory foam at Target and cut it down to fit the size of the crib mattress. Try this before giving up on night time wear. You will miss out on so much growth time while the band is off. Guest guest
I'm sorry to hear your little guy is not sleeping well with the band. We didn't have that issue. Have you tried changing his clothing or changing the temp. in the house? The first 2 nights we had to play with those two things and then our son was back to sleeping through. We had the DOC band and I know they do NOT recommend night only because the head is always growing. Does your son sleep on the flat side at night? I would definitely think that by doing night only wear it would be counterproductive and it will take longer to see the results you want. Also, if the head grows a bunch a night then the band won't fit right which would cause other issues. Are there any red spots...maybe it needs an adjustment? Does he have brachy...we were told that sometimes brachy babies have a harder time with the bands because they can't find their flat spot. What are you doing every time he wakes? Is he just stirring or is he full-blown crying? There was a post awhile back and the dad was saying that they did night only while on vacation and were not happy that they did. The child grew a ton and they missed that growth because it was during the time the band was off. Good luck. > My son got his STARband Aug. 1st and adjusted quite well after the > first few days of fussiness. We've seen great improvements in his > head. Guest guest
I have put the air on, turned it off, got him naked, bundled him. Nothing worked. I don't want to wear it day or night only. I know that it's just maintaining his head shape not correcting. He sleeps on either side and I sometimes find him on his belly. Mostly on his side, though. He's had his band adjusted 3 times since we got it. It is closer to his left eye than his right eye so the orthotist put in a piece of foam to keep it from rotating. Doesn't seem to help much. I can't honestly tell you if he has brachy. He has/had a flat spot on the right side of his head. We were only told he had plagio? I uploaded pictures of his before and 12 days later under Plagio C kids (his name is Colton). I try to wait when he wakes up to see if he'll put himself back to sleep. It always turns into full-blown bloody murder screams. If I don't get in there fast enough, he wakes up and wants to stay up. He was up for 3 hours one night because I let him cry for 15 minutes. I'm going to try the memory foam mattress that was suggested by another poster. We'll work our way back to 23 hour wear. Even if it is rough on all of us. If you have any more suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Lynne > > I'm sorry to hear your little guy is not sleeping well with the > band. We didn't have that issue. Guest guest
I wish I had more suggestions. It sounds like you are trying all the right things. His head has definitely improved just in those 12 days! Like you said, I would definitely work back up to the 23 hours a day. Good luck. Hopefully, in the end you will feel that it was all worth it. Keep us posted...let us know how the memory foam works for him. > > > > I'm sorry to hear your little guy is not sleeping well with the > > band. We didn't have that issue.
