Hi. My son is seven months old, and has tort as well. He has been going to pt AND chiro for the past four months. I take him to chiro weekly, and it has made such a difference. I should say that I don't take him to a "traditional" chiro., one that "pops" bones. Ours uses the B.E.S.T. method which involves pressing on pressure points. Some of the philosophies behind it seem a bit hokey to me, but I swear by the treatment. Tiernan's tort should be resolved soon. He still has a bit of tightness, and he definitely favors one side of his body when it comes to his milestones... rolling, sitting, reaching...etc., but I think attacking it with both treatments has been great for us. I was told that it could take up to a year to resolve this. I am looking into the option of chiropractic to help speed the recovery along. Does anyone have advice whether or not I should do chiro care? PT and chiro care at the same time? How much chiro care is needed? I'm torn about what to do. I am afraid

once I start him on chiro care, he will need it for the rest of his life. I don't want that. The cost of PT is adding up quickly and I'm not seeing the results I expect after these past 2 months of therapy. Suggestions / comments / advice would be appreciated.

Everyone is raving about the all-new beta.

Hi Guess, in a previous post I mentioned Bowen Therapy or Bowen technique as it's also known. It's efficacy treating torticollis is usually related to adults. However, I believe it is very good at helping babies with this condition. I directed members to a great site on plagio/torticollis called www.plagiocephalycare.org If you visit the forum there you'll see a thread devoted to Bowen called Bowen Therapy is Working in which two babies are mentioned and their progress with this therapy. Please I would urge you all to have a look.

Hi ! I was just interested in reading your post about you treating some adults with Torticollis. Because I don't know my early childhood background (born in the 60's), I am starting to wonder if I had torticollis and/or Plagio at birth. All I was told I had an uneven head shape and was a breech baby. Now I have to deal with lazy shoulder muscles and scolosis in the lower back area. I think when I was around 10 years old I was recommended to get my back braced but I don't understand why my parents didn't go for it. And my whole body is out of alignment. Sometimes when I turn my head to the right I feel a muscular pain in my neck. And I suffer alot of migraines.

My youngest daughter was diagnosed with Tort and Plagio at 2 months old. She had PT until she turned 1 years old but didn't wear a helmet for Plagio. It wasn't recommended for her to wear one six years ago. Now she has speech language issues. I have been checking her back regularly to see if any curses have formed. So far I have been lucky.

What's your piece of advice for this case? I prefer you don't give any website addresses. Suzi from Australia

Hi Suzi, I'm a bit confused as to which case you're referring to - yours or your daughter's? Also, it is very difficult and wouldn't be ethical to go into real details in this type of forum. Please feel free to private mail me if you wish. Having said that any bowen therapist would probably look at a whole body approach with both of you. In your case, probably focus at some point on your pelvis and work over the shoulders. Shoulders and TMJ (temporomandibular joint - where jaw joints just in front of the ear) would be of interest in cases of migraine (and general benefit to the whole upper body). Another area to look at would be the coccyx or tail bone. Really though it would be best to take yourself to a Bowen therapist if you're interested in this. I'm not clear if your daughter still has tort (though I'm assuming this is why your on this forum). In young babies we can usually just go for the area involved e.g. neck and upper back but in an older child I would tend to look at the whole body as well as these areas. The good news is that children do tend to respond quickly unlike us older, chronic cases. This is why we see so many fantastic changes in kids when they get Bowen particularly with nasties like childhood asthma. I know you don't wish to see websites but perhaps others in the forum do? My website www.glasgowbowentherapy.co.uk will give people a flavour of Bowen and there are case histories on there. There is also a link on my site to a Bowen Therapist's website who has lots of experience treating childhood asthma (lots of childhood asthma cases there). Bowen Therapy started in Geelong in Australia where Bowen started doing his technique now named after him. You should have absolutely no problem, I'm sure, finding a therapist in Oz. Hope this is helpful?

Thanks for some advice! The case I was referring to was about me. About 13 years ago I seen a Chiropractor/PT because I was in so much pain I barely could walk. He suggested some exercises for pelvic and shoulder areas back then. Now I had two children I think my body is out of alignment again because the pain is start to come back to haunt me. I do recall I feel pain in my shoulder to the back of the neck to the head to cause the migraine to start. Would you recommend me to go the gym to do a Pilate programme?

Basically I joined this forum in hoping to search for answers I didn't know six years ago for my daughter. I am more concerned if there will be side effects down the track. Like Speech Language, etc.

I do a Google search to see if I can find a bowen therapist in SE QLD. Suzi

My son has been in PT for tort since he was 12 weeks old...he is now

5 months old and I have been taking him to see a chiropractor also.

I believe he is getting a LOT out of the chiro care. He was breech

and was really squished...our chiro has done WONDERS for him. But

you have to be a " believer " in it. There are a lot of skeptics out

there, I happen to believe it in, I go myself and like I said, it's

done wonders for my son. He used to move his shoulders over if you

tried to move his legs from side to side and he doesn't do that

anymore. He has almost full rotation now and his tort is MUCH better

also.
