Guest guest
Hello. The STARband IS a great product! The main issue is when a STARband (or ANY band) is being used by an inexperienced Orthotist. As long as the Ortho using the band has experience, then the STARband should yield excellent results. There have been MANY success stories with the STARbands, Hanger Bands etc... unfortunately, in the hands of an inexperienced Ortho, ANY band can cause problems. Good luck and keep us updated. Guest guest
Hi , I just got back from a consultation with our cranial facial plastic surgeon. He is the one who prescribed our STARband. Sydney has brachy and he initially measured her at 100% (length same as width). This is severe. She is now at 93% after 6 weeks with the helmet and he is very pleased with her progress. Our ortho has lots of experience. Sometimes when I read this board I think I should have gotten a DOC band too, but it would be way more expensive and inconvenient given our insurance & location. When I look at Sydneys head, and when I go to the doctor I know that the STARband is working great for us. Good luck with yours. -christine Sydney/6 mo/ brachy/ STARband 5-31-06 > > I have been reading a lot of posts about the STARband not working. Guest guest
Hello NO you are not wrong at all. The STARband is a quality band just like the DOC is. The difference is that orthomerica does all kinds of stuff and CT does only bands. So it is the ortho that will make all the difference. If he has exp then your child's tx will be wonderful and successful. We've had many parents of STARband grads that have had awesome results. Just make sure that the ortho knows what he is doing. Let us know when the band gets in and how the fitting went Sandy Willow's mom Torticollis resolved 02/04 Cranio Germany Grad 02/04 > > I have been reading a lot of posts about the STARband not working. Guest guest
My son was treated with a Starband and we're happy with our results. As others have said..the key is the ortho. Where are you going for treatment? Perhaps others on this board have been there and can provied additional info/support. Good luck with everything! Guest guest
Thanks and Jen - It really sounds like it comes down to the experience of the orthotist and ours seems to have a lot of experience. I didn't come our and ask him directly but I will when we get our STARband. Knowing the success you have had makes me feel a lot better. I think Jakob's index was 97% but I can't remember for sure. I will ask again at our next appt. so I can write it down and keep track of it. I know he said that after we get the band on the 24th, we go back a week later then 2 weeks after that then hopefully a month after that unless there are problems. Thanks Again, > > > > I have been reading a lot of posts about the STARband not working. I > > guess I am a little concerned since this is the band Jakob will be > > getting in 2 weeks. Guest guest
- We are going for treatment at Children's Care in Rapid City, SD. Our orto seems to have a lot of experience so I hope things go well. > > > > I have been reading a lot of posts about the STARband not working. Guest guest
Hi . I see that you are going to the Children's Care in Rapids City. We are going to the one in Sioux Falls. Our son (5 months) just got his on Monday and he is adjusting. He fusses a bit yet though. It's kinda big for him yet so it slides around. Can you tell me how long your son/daughter has been going and is it working? Colette > > > > > > I have been reading a lot of posts about the STARband not working. Guest guest
Hi , I too had doubts when I came to this website and read negative info about Starband. When I met our orthotist, I knew I made the right choice. She is very knowledgeable, lots of experience and immediately put me at ease with the whole deal. Hopefully, you will have the same experience. I'm just starting this journey out as well, my girl will get her Starband in a couple of weeks. Please keep us posted. Guest guest
Hi Collette - We get our STARband on the 24th so we have only been to Children's Care a few times. Now, our insurance company is requestion we see a plastic surgeon for a 2nd opinion. Ughh I hope they at least pay for something since they are making us jump hoops. > > > > > > > > I have been reading a lot of posts about the STARband not > working.
