Guest guest
My tumor is 7mm. Looking at a lumpectomy. Wondering how long before you went back to work, how you felt, etc. Also, wondering if anyone had the Oncotype DX done, what results were and what treatment you had as a result. Thanks! Guest guest
I also had a lumpectomy in August and was back at work in 4 or 5 days. My lump was about 4mm am having a genetic test done to see whether or not I need to get Chemo ( according to the oncologist) and I go back for another appointment with him on Oct 23. Can't really be really clear on meds yet. ne -- In breastcancer2 , " soltamabe " wrote: > > My tumor is 7mm. Looking at a lumpectomy. Your tumor is too big for Oncotype DX. I asked my surgeon about it and she said it wouldn't work for me. Your tumor has to be less than 5 cm. -Frances -- -Frances Bartels *** ki0dz@... Guest guest
I had my lumpectomy on May 1, 2006 - and was back at work the following monday (as an aside, I live in NYC; my surgery was outpatient - and the outpatient center is right across the street from Union Square Park, where, on that day, there was a HUGE immigrant rights demonstration - it was unbleievable! I was with my girllfriend, though, who steered me through the throngs of people--I was pretty much stoned, though, on Percocet ... anywya, went back to work the following monday. I also had the OncoDx done (it's SOP at the hospital I'm at), and the treatment plan changed from just radiation to chemo, +... marisa --- soltamabe wrote: > My tumor is 7mm. Looking at a lumpectomy. Guest guest
Hello, What is Oncotype DX? I had a tumor 1.5 cm and they never mentioned that procedure. Thanks. Guest guest
if -Francis' tumor is 7mm, that is smaller than 1cm and she could take the Oncotype DX test. Her tumor also has to be ER+. The test doesn't work otherwise. -
Guest guest
Hi Sharon, It's a fairly new test to assay whether you'd be a good candidate for chemo or not. It can only be done for early stage er+ women. - sharon coley wrote on 10/6/2006, 2:20 PM: > Hello, > > What is Oncotype DX? Guest guest
Okay, I'm confused. Blame it on chemo, right? My tumor is 8 cm (centimeters) in diameter, not 7 mm (millimeters). 5 cm is the upper limit for the OncotypeDX test according to my surgeon. Since 8 cm is greater than 5 cm, I'm not a candidate. My tumor continues to be destroyed by the addition of Avastin to Taxotere and Carboplatin. I've had two treatments with this cocktail (previously had two AC and two Taxotere & Carboplatin WITHOUT Avastin) and tumor VOLUME has decreased from 74 ml (miliLITERS, aka cc for cubic centimeters) to about 37 ml (or cc). I'm very pleased with that. -Frances wrote: > if -Francis' tumor is 7mm, that is smaller than 1cm and she could > take the Oncotype DX test. Her tumor also has to be ER+. Guest guest
The Oncogene test (21 gene screen) can be done for any breast cancer; so far it is only proven to be prognostic for node-negative breast cancer; however it will probably eventually be shown to be predictive for response to chemo. and other Rx. for all breast cancers. Insurance companies don't want to pay for it. It costs about $4,000. Some of us want the test because we want to be able to make more informed decisions about the rest of our lives. (ie- what are the chances I will be alive in 10 years?!) Some of us want to know if the risk/benefit of chemo or other dangerous treatments is truely justified. I was one of those who had the test, because I wanted to know. > > > My tumor is 7mm. Looking at a lumpectomy. Guest guest
Sorry : the 21 gene test of the primary breast tumor is supposed to be done on lymph node negative cases; this helps predict whether the risk of recurrance is high enough to justify chemo. or other Rx. > > Hi Sharon, > > It's a fairly new test to assay whether you'd be a good candidate for > chemo or not. Guest guest
Hi Anne, I'm confused - is the Oncogene test the same as the Oncotype DX? The only reference I found on the oncogene test was that it was based on the Oncotype results, which were all done on early stage, node-negative er+ women. - Anne wrote on 10/6/2006, 6:59 PM: > The Oncogene test (21 gene screen) can be done for any breast cancer; > so far it is only > proven to be prognostic for node-negative breast cancer; however it > will probably > eventually be shown to be predictive for response to chemo. and other > Rx. for all breast > cancers.
