Guest guest
Well, it has been 3 days of nursing solely now, and my supply still has not increased any! I let nurse as often as he likes- which has been almost constantly- and still nothing! He nurses for 2 minutes and then starts pulling and tugging and grunting. Last night I let him nurse for an hour and he was still acting starved, so i gave in and made him a 4 oz bottle, he scarfed it down and still wanted more! What do I do, he has only had 3 wet diapers today including his morning one. Guest guest
I can't eat oatmeal, it makes me sick. I thought about a growth spurt, but I know that I am also not making enough to satisfy him because I can hardly express anything when he is done. He has never had a problem with nipple confusion before. He actually has always had a difficult time figuring out the bottle LOL. He preferes the breast. I don't have a health food store around here, so in order to get the herbs I have to order them online, but that would take forever to get here. By hten I would be all dried up! I just thought that by now I would have gotten some of my supply back? Mom to:Blake 1-19-96, Katelyn 10-16-99 and Chase 10-21-00http://communities.msn.com/DaveandsFamilyPhotos Supply ?? Guest guest
Have you tried the usual supply booster herbs? Oatmeal? Pumping with a good pump? The tugging after 1-2 min is because he's trying to get a let down, my dd does the same thing then stops after she gets it. Sounds like he may be developing nipple confusion/prefence too so you might want to ditch the bottle and try cup feeding. He's 2 mo so he could also be growing through a growth spurt which means he never wants to leave the breast or so it seems=) Supply ?? Guest guest
How much you can express is by no means an indication of what you produce. Even the best pumps are only about 1/3 as effective as your baby. It can also take a week or 2 to get your supply back up. Supply ?? That doesn't mean anything, honey. I couldn't and still can't pump/express an ounce and have been able to breastfeed for almost 2 years. Trying to express *after* nursing is even more unlikely, unless you have a tremendous amount of extra milk. -- Gaunt - Logan Wolf due May 9, 2001 Babies come into the world with perfect love and perfect trust. Maybe this is the case for you, too? Love, and Cameron's mommy
Guest guest
We've been through periods like this also - seems like they can't nurse enough for days. Actually going through this right now with my 10+mo. old. We have all been sick over the holiday. He just wants to constantly nurse or hang at the least. He is nursing when he wouldn't normally nurse, which makes it feel like I have nothing there, but actually there is. He isn't nursing strongly all the time, but he is on the breast constantly this past week or so. What I have found, is that after these episodes wane, your supply usually ends up right where it should be for your baby. Maybe try some of the Mother's Milk Tea by Traditional Medicinals. If nothing else, you'll be getting another three or so cups of fluid intake . Joan

You need to find ways to relax while you nurse, and in general. Try to visualize milk flowing through your body when nurse or you pump. The flow pattern would be from stimulus inward for a let-down, and then gushing back outward. To ease 's frustration, massage your breast before you latch him on. Do you sleep with him at night? If you can, this is a great time to let him comfort nurse for extra stimulation. Now, on that formula topic--try a balance. You want to keep healthy and growing. If that requires some formula, try to use only X oz and decrease it each day. Also, spread it out throughout the day in small amounts and give it only after nursing. For instance, nurse all morning, then say he's still really hungry, give him 2 oz while you feed the older ones. Then go back to nursing. At dinner time he's still really agitated. go for 2 more oz. Go back to nursing for the evening. Time frame? 2 weeks or more is possible, since your supply got really low. You may be on continuous growth spurt through his regular three month spurt. I just went through a week plus long growth spurt in my 10 month old and didn't realize it until after the fact. Herbals, etc. I would order some, and take them when they come.
