Guest guest
From what I've understood about carbonated drinks is that is a combination of the sugar and the bubbles that upset our pouches. Nutritionalist told me to wait at LEAST 6 weeks after surgery before you have any. I know that when that 6 weeks is up I'm going to sonic to get a cherry limeade. lol Anje in Alabama Age: 22 5'8 " Lap RNY 12/30/2002 PreOp: 325 Current Weight: 303 Total loss: 22 lbs! Guest guest
I call it pop, TOO! We're just normal, here, right? My doc says no for 30 days. *I* say if you never get back on it, don't get back on it. I can say this since I worked REEALLY hard to get back on it. <smacking head> The danger is not the gas in it. I know *I* will burp, but I also know most docs consider us too stupid to burp. I'm guessing YOU would burp if you got air. Am I right? Anyway. Never mind the gas, Either you tolerate it or you don't. BUT the danger in coffee, tea, cola is the calcium. I know, it's always about CALCIUM or protein, isn't it? LOL! The tannic acids (caf or decaf) help the calcium excrete. I know, I know. I hate those rules, too. But there ya go. Isn't that gas that is the problem, it's the " brown " . Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Ok Ok, I'm sure there is a lot of opinion on this but how many out there drink diet soda? (we call it pop where I'm from) I've hear people say, " It streaches you out " and other say diet pop is ok but the reason doctors say no regular pop is because of the sugar content. Guest guest
I do <slightly raising hand and looking very sheepish> Don't tell anyone though, ok? I've spent so much time getting on 's case about her " Diet Coke habit " that if she found out about me, it might not be pretty. lol. The only thing I can say in my defense is that I rarely drink soda that is caffeinated (only when I'm in a restaurant that doesn't have caffeine free Diet Coke). Soda will not stretch your pouch as long as you know how to burp. Can you burp? If not, you may need to learn how to, but I've never met a man who couldn't burp. lol. The problem with soda is the phosphorous in it (I thinks that's what's in it - it pulls calcium from your bones) and the caffeine. I'm not positive about that, but I know that something affects the calcium and something affects the water. I'm just full of half-way useful info today, huh? ------------------------------------------------ Terry Mayers 5DollarHosting.comR http://www.5dollarhosting.com (877)-838-HOST / .... because it shouldn't cost a fortune to make a fortune! Guest guest
Ok, if it's the " brown " in the soda that's bad for us, what about diet Sprite? Is that okay? I could have sworn that what makes the bubbles had something to do with it. Maybe the soda bubbles have gone to my brain. lol. ------------------------------------------------ Terry Mayers 5DollarHosting.comR http://www.5dollarhosting.com (877)-838-HOST / .... because it shouldn't cost a fortune to make a fortune! Guest guest
Yeah, shoot. I did as you DID and not as you SAID. I was always backwards. One thing that I've learned is that when you're super thirsty and order a Diet Coke in a restaurant, take a SIP and taste it to make sure it's actually diet before downing the whole thing at once. UGH!! I was alone with my older two kids (6 and 4) at Disney and couldn't drive home. CJ was ready to drive out to get me (an hour drive), but I told him that I'd wait until it had passed. The kids were occupied by a Disney movie playing in a gift shop. ------------------------------------------------ Terry Mayers 5DollarHosting.comR http://www.5dollarhosting.com (877)-838-HOST / .... because it shouldn't cost a fortune to make a fortune! Guest guest
You can't get the flavored sodas sugar free because the syrup has sugar - at least you can't at the Sonics that I've seen around here. Is the limeade sugar free? I never looked because I never imagined it might be. ------------------------------------------------ Terry Mayers 5DollarHosting.comR http://www.5dollarhosting.com (877)-838-HOST / .... because it shouldn't cost a fortune to make a fortune! Guest guest
Dear , My surgeon told me to stay away from soda (diet) because of the carbonation. He said that the bubbles (pressure) over time can damage our surgery or cause gastric problems. I loved soda before my surgery but I'm not one for artificial sweeteners so I pretty much stay away from it now. What I did buy, however, was some plain club soda. Every now and then I pour a couple of ounces in a glass and if I have it, add a wedge of lemon or a slice of lime. It refreshes and doesn't take artificial. I don't do this often because it gives me the burps. LOL Hope you are well. Love, Trace in Va. Beach, VA Dr. Schechner, Va. Guest guest
Terry and Mom, Have you ever tried Fresca? It's the only diet soda I can drink. I think it's the grapefruit juice that's in the soda. Tastes citrusy (word?) and refreshing. Mind you I can't drink much of it but I like it.
