My Lucas was like this, too. I just tried to go with it and now he's much

better (he's 3 1/2 months old.) He still loves to nurse and will go on

nursing jags still, but I can tell when he's doing it for comfort/fun or

really hungry and eating. Babies a month old are still working on

establishing a good supply, if it's possible for you to continue with what

you're doing I think you'll find he'll be spacing himself out before long.

Welcome to the list. Your son sounds like a lot of breastfed babies I have

seen. Do you have a sling? That could make it so you could get some things

done while satisfying his need to snack. It takes some practice but once

you get the hang of it, it can make all the difference.

Hi everyone,

My name is and I'm BFing my one month old son, . We are

new to this group and I'm running into a bit of a stressful

situation. The deal is I've tried feeding on demand, but as a

result, I'm not getting anything done and it takes nearly 'til 3 or 4

in the afternoon, if I'm lucky, before I can go anywhere because of

his snacking habit (and today I couldn't leave at all). Instead of

nursing for long periods every few hours, he eats for short periods

of time, like around three to five minutes, and then passes out. Then

he wakes up again in a 20-30 minutes and then wants to eat again.

I've tried everything to get him to wake up when he passes out (like

burping him and changing his diaper) but these strategies don't work.

My goal is to get him to eat more less frequently and am hoping to

get help on how to achieve this. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love

to hear them.

Thank you,

Give the Gift of Life Breastfeed!

Barb, did you leave the flyer with COSAC or did you ask them to print it in one of their monthly newsletters. I know there is a fee for advertising, but I would be happy to call COSAC and try to get around that fee.

Deb-

No, I brought the flyers to last year's COSAC meeting and left the flyers

at the CAN table. Lots of people walked by, stopped and took the flyers.

Heidi was there most of the time and I don't think many people asked about

Mosaic. The people I did speak to personally like Ezzie and Moran later

came to our meetings.

I wrote the info for Mosaic down for Zane at the Arise meeting

that we met you at but she never did anything with it. I'm going to send

them one of the new flyers now that we have real meeting space. I can't

imagine that they would charge us for putting this info in the COSAC

newsletter but if they do I will be glad to let you negotiate!

Hi ,

Sounds like you have done really well. Was the pain as bad as you thought

post-op and does it feel strange afterwards. Looking forward to hearing

from you.

Have you had your surgery done yet ?

Pain, well I have had 2 Caesareans and with the second

one it was a 47cm cut and I went back to work on Day 7

( I am officially a madwoman! ) So I thought that this

surgery would be no major problem! Hmhhh... It was to

be honest, because what is the point of being like

those women who say childbirth is a joy and painfree

(huh?), it hurt but my friends came to see me the

night of the surgery and rubbed lots of lipgloss into

my sore lips (thanks Suzanne) and were really

supportive, and the morphine was very good… My husband

was there when I woke up – but I never really wanted

to be awake for the first 2 days – I was exhausted –

but having a 3 year old and a 9 month old and working

fulltime is an exhausting life at the best of times –

in fact when my surgeon would visit me at 7am in the

morning – I was so sound asleep he just left me and

the nurses had to inform me that Dr Ritchie had come

and would be back in the afternoon….

Pain on Day 3 was minimal – I went back to work one

week post op – to get my mind off things etc and

catching peak hour trains was painful with ppl

knocking up against you… then I went the alternate way

and things were better – I feel 110% now and my scars

are very neat and healing exceptionally well – my GP

says they look great and so neat – so just think what

I did in those few days afterwards (if you have not

had it yet) the pain does go away – and it is not as

bad as a hip replacement or heart transplant pain… ( I

will never forget the sound of the bone saws (sounded

like an electric chain saw) in the recovery room

after my surgery – I was dozing in and out of

consciousness to the sound of those saws – I was

thinking of my old pop who had to endure a hip

replacement by epidural AWAKE and then when I thought

back on the whole thing I thought my pain will go away

– and it has – and I am trying as hard as possible to

make this thing work – I want to be a thin mum when I

take my daughter to Kindergarten in 2004… so I have a

while but it would be great to turn things around by

the end of next year….

Oh the strangeness? At the moment I have NO hunger and

I have no hunger which I dont what that is attributed

to - the band / my will power ?/ a bit of both?/

scared to eat too much ? ( band slippage?) ??? But

anatomically? No strange feeling I cant feel the band

or the port...

Good luck with your efforts

Dear ,

Your comments moved me almost to tears, as I have gone through them same

things (as probably many of us here have).

I relise now that being over weight is rather like sleeping beauty in the

tower surrounded by throny bushes. It takes someone very special, with

insight and love, to get past the thorns to the sleeping person within.(ok,

I know I sound corny). Therefore, I know that my partner truely loves me for

me, no matter how I look. (Although he is very supportive and excited about

the process of me lossing weight and gaining health and energy).

After so many years of being young and insecure about my size, I know that

really, my true friends don't care how I look, although they worry about my

health and happiness. The lady you met sounds like one of these special

people.I hope things go well with her, and good luck with the opperation,

take care,

Gabby.

Could you give me some detail about your surgeon. I cannot (due to

insurance, or lack there of) have surgery until next May (not really that

far away) and am still looking for a surgeon. Was Dr Ritchie supportive,

informative etc? I live in Orange (sorry for boring everyone who've already

heard these details) but thought the obvious place for surgery would be

Sydney. thanks for your help.

michael

wow - you are lucky to find someone to be by your side and to support you!

(but remember you are doing this for michael - because i bet your bottom

dollar you are nice enough just the way you are..)

if you want anymore details about the surgery or an ear to listen to your

preop fears (you will get them now and then it is only natural!) - I am

happy to lend that ear or do what ever someone who hasnt been banded very

long... just email me... my husband can bandy on to you as well as to how I

was preop... and post op

PS s Velish Soup is nice mush - and Fruche is nice mush too...

(unknown)

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all your kind words..believe me they are all much appreciated..

the more i think about it the more I think what happended this weekend was a

gift..

I'm sure you are all as strong as I in putting up the emotional wall and

have everyone percieve you to be the confident/ self assured person with no

issue's. I found myself in the situation where that wall got shattered, how

i don't know.. I met a gorgeous girl on sat nite who normally I would be

scared to death to talk to (you all know this feeling i'm sure..) i felt

like i had to talk to her, so naturally i avoided contact as much as i

possibly could and ran away with my tail between my legs, but as it happens

fate caught up with me in the kitchen where i had no-where to run. When I

got the 'there you are , ive been looking for you' comment. Long story short

we talked till about six the next morning about spiritualism, love, health

and all the insecurities that go along with all of the above. I have been a

big guy all my life so these things have become my nature, I love who i am

as a person but despise the fact that I am in the body I am (spent many a

night cursing those that be for my misfortune..) but what I released after

our marathon talk was, it is not a misfortune, i am better than that I am

like this because my spirit is strong enough to handle this whereas someone

else might not be. That i guess was the first step in a relisation of

removing 32 years of personal hate/anger and becoming happy. I have not only

to love who i am (which i do) but more importantly what I am before I can

begin to reshape myself.

Now for this person who i have never met before, to come into my life and is

willing (insisting) on being by my side and supporting me only 3 weeks

before a surgery, with principles that if i didnt apply would probably fail.

I can only think that it was that a gift and a lesson that that fate

/desinty whatever you believe has given me.

Anyway i have rambled on enough, yes I am struggling, yes i will survive and

yes i will be successful...

thanks again...

michael..

btw stephanie, I am on the Gold Coast and being Operated on by Dr Les

Nathenson at the Holy Spirit Hospital in Brisbane (was going to be the

Wesley, but change of plans..) on the 14th Sept...

Dr Ritchie is a funny type of man he seems sometimes inpersonal but really

isnt - I guess you have to go into that surgery and feel 100% comfortable to

be able to get to grips with the fact that 1) the person in front of you can

assist in your weight goal and 2) that they have done many more before you

and to both fatter and thinner ppl than you... Dr Ritchie has been

supportive to me and I am happy that I have had it done - Dr Meyers was my

anaesthistist (didnt get that right did I?) and he was absolutely

brilliant - he is the one keeping you alive and under whilst Dr Ritchie is

doing his stuff - and I was extremely cautious - I grilled him asked how

many deaths he had under anaesthetic and in this type of operation etc and

he was happy and willing to share his experiences - I had a cold when I had

the surgery so the worst thing was that bringing up phlegm (Sorry) was

extremely diff but the nurses and staff at St Lukes are tremendous... the

physio was great and encouraged me to carry on... the dietician at the

hospital was good she came to visit me when i saw the puree stuff and nearly

had heart failure... i love to cook and presentation of food is paramount so

to see this stuff dolloped on a plate was not good. Dr Ritchie came to see

me several times post op and was great. I am having my first fill next

Monday so I hope all will go well.

Whilst you are waiting for the surgery - think and rethink and do as much

research as you can and then you will be sure that you made the right

decision - I was going to have my surgery in March/May 2000 - but when they

did the full blood tests - I was pregnant with my now 8 month old

Isabella...

Good luck

Hinson

PS Dr Ritchie uses the Swedish Adjustable Band...

Hi , Thanks for your reply, no I haven't had my surgery yet. I'm

going back to Stuart Skinner next month and I hope to book in then. I too

have 2 children, 4 & 2, and I'm looking forward to having a break while I'm

in hospital. Thanks for getting back to me I will let you know how I go.

Hi

I can only reiterate what Liz has said 'hang in there " .

I looked at having the band done in 2000 with a Dr in Brisbane (can't

remember his name off hand), however after his office sent me the booklet I

freaked and said this was too drastic, my local GP agreed with me, so I

shelved the idea. Then I went to an information night on the Gold Coast with

Dr Layani in March or April this year and I was banded on the 21st May 2001.

Although I am still stumbling through " the complete change of lifestyle

thing " , I really do think it is my most successful attempt to change my

life! I have lost 15kg (as at 8/8/01) and, as someone else stated in an

earlier posting, it has already made a big difference to how I feel and

look. I just wish I had gone ahead with it in 2000, then maybe I would

already be wearing that bikini that my brother-in-law said he would buy for

me when I reach my goal weight.lol!!

So..... GO FOR IT MICHAEL!!!

Regards

Gosh Jaimie,

I haven't seen your other emails but I can assure you this group is very helpful. Be patient and keep posting and reading backposts. You can get a view on just about any aspect of the band. Sure there are lots of conversations that go back and forth between those who have been on the list a while. Don't take it personally. Someone will usually answer most posts eventually if you ask a question; and if not it's just that we've missed it in the high volume of posts. This is a pretty friendly group - we/they don't snub anyone intentionally. Please post your questions again - we like to help.

jaimie,

sorry I can't help you. I have not had the 'banding' done . are new to the

group so didn't see any of your queries, but I'm sure that if you read some

of the other questions and answers that are placed to the group you would

see that they do get answered eventually. keep trying but I for one do have

a young family to look after and don't always come online for days!!

Dear Jaimie,

When I saw your name on the list of emails this morning, I thought you must

be a new person, as I had never seen your name there before. Something must

have happened to your first emails.

Why don't you send the questions again and give us another go?.

I have noticed that new people often complain that everyone is ignoring

them, however, everyone doesn't answer all the questions and comments all

the time. So please believe me, you weren't being ignored.

Hope to hear from you again soon,
