Guest guest
Purnima- We are trying to figure out how to make our district pay for Boardmaker. I will be speaking to my advocate at some point this week about my daughter's upcoming IEP. I would guess though, that if there is any resistance, the next step would be to get an independent speech eval. Where is your office in Lodi? Are you interested in new patients? Barb << Hi Barbara, I just got back into Peds Dent practice after 1 year and 10 months of being on sabbatical (dealing with my sons issues directly and full time). I am in Lodi part time when he is in school on Tuesdays. Previously I was in practice for 15 years and teaching at Columbia University for 7 years. Re: Boardmaker and school district paying for it. How should I go about this? Any ideas? >>
Guest guest
We are just at the beginning of working out who is going to pay for the Dynamite communication device for . However, the school indicated that they are responsible for paying for the device. Also, he would be able to take the device home it would not be limited to use in school only. Of course, if there is any insurance coverage or other means of payment my case worker indicated that they would be appreciative of any monetary contributions. In order to proceed, a letter from the speech evaluation which was conducted by the therapist is needed and this will be reviewed & approved by the School Board. I will keep you posted on my progress and any issues that we encounter along the way. Thanks Jean BarbStrate@... wrote: > Purnima- > We are trying to figure out how to make our district pay for Boardmaker. > I will be speaking to my advocate at some point this week about my > daughter's upcoming IEP. Guest guest
Anne- This really does help Anne since is out of district also. I do have some hesitation though since we have the additional hours at home. Is your district funding any of your home hours in addition to the school placement? Barb << Barb & Purnima, Suprisingly, I had very little problem having my district pay for Boardmaker. My son is almost completely non-verbal, so maybe that makes the case stronger. I wrote them a letter, stating that since my child was " out of district " , I struggled having the icons made timely. This was supported by the fact that his school's printer was broken several times so far this year. The key was " out of district " , so this made it " out of their control " . We then reviewed the software options available (Mayer-) , i.e. 2700 pecs icons, Writing With Symbols, etc. We concluded the need for the full boardmaker because of the icon size. is currently on 3/4 of an inch icons. Our goal is to go smaller still for portability and . The smallest the 2700 pictures only software and the Writing With symbols software printed were 1 inch, so that supported the full boardmaker. Hope this helps. Anne Q Re: Tax Info >>
Guest guest
Aha, good thinking. Thanks Anne! Barb << Yes, my district pays for an afterschool program. I actually think that supports the need for non-school PECS icons.... Anne Q >>

Guest guest
Thanks Anne. I have a call in for my son's case manager for the Boardmaker. I will try the out of district approach. That is true too. Purnima
Guest guest
Anne, what is the nature of the afterschool program? Does your district provide an aide for the program? That would be excellent! JoAnne, who gets nothing extra BarbStrate@... wrote: > Aha, good thinking. Guest guest
Joanne, We have an afterschool ABA program that is funded by our school district. Many districts balk at the idea of paying for a full day school program and then some at home ABA, however, many more seem to be paying. Guest guest
Hi, My district just gave us a copy of the Boardmaker. I requested them for it a month ago. Naryan is in an out of district facility. BUT I think this worked. I told them that I would come and use theirs because I am desperate. Trust me I would have. They said they bought a multi user license and I got to copy it on my computer. Ask them for a multiuser license. Question: where can I laminate? Guest guest
Purnima, I buy the self laminating sheets at Staples. They're easy to use and you don't need heat. I think the icons are more supple and not as sharp as when hard laminated. Anne Q Re: Tax Info Hi, My district just gave us a copy of the Boardmaker. I requested them for it a month ago. Remember when you post it goes out to all members of the group. Mosaic meets the 2nd Thursday morning (Ridgewood and Noble on 2nd floor at the computer section sitting area) and the 3rd Wednesday evening (The Arc in Hackensack) of every month. All are welcome.
