Guest guest
I just returned from Mayo today and I must say it has been a very hard couple of days for our family. We went in to St. 's Hospital on Wednesday for an IV so she wouldn't be fasting, then did her MRI, MRA, and MRS in the morning. Next we left the hospital for Mayo Clinic to see her neurologist. We knew the possiblity of some bad news but were taken aback with it anyay. The MRA revealed several narrow arteries in her brain on the right side. Immediately we were told that an Angiogram was needed quickly to rule out vascularitis. A neuroradiologist happened to be in the next room and so our neurologist went to show him the MRA scans and they scheduled an immediate angiogram for this morning. So, we readmitted Asenath, put in ANOTHER IV and did the angiogram this morning. Today, we were told information that confirmed the presence of at least 4 narrow arteries. Three were in the right side of her brain-one in the M1 region, one in the M2 region, and one in the M3 region-and then one in the left side of her brain located in the speech control region. The vascularitis has not been confirmed due to the lack of a beaded look (open artery/closed artery/open artery look) but has not bee totally ruled out. Many doctors are currently pouring over her scans we have been told and several specialists will be examining them and we will be returning to Mayo shortly to see some of them. She has been started on Vasotec in hopes that it will help open some of the narrow vessels. The possibility of brain surgery to open the lasrger vessel by a baloon techniue is being discussed, and also if vascularitis is suspected there would be possible major immune suppressants given in the hospital to try to help them open. We know that this is devastating information and gives us some answers as to why Asenath keeps having strokes, and we are heart broken, but we also know that she has been battling these many life and death issues for quite a while now. Even the sleep issues she has been having were seen in the hospital these last few days and really scared our nurses. Everyone was very gentle and caring with us there and we know that everyone is feverishly researching and trying to find answers and help for our precious Asenath. We ask for continued prayers. Guest guest
Darla. I do not know where to even start or what to say other than my thoughts and prayers are with you, Asenath and your entire family. What a lot for a little girl to deal with. But she has proven her strength in the past and I truly believe that she will continue to fight. It sounds like you have a great care team and they are investigating everything for her.Best of luck and please keep us posted. Dawn

The emotional stress you are under now...., and pregnant to boot, please try and take very good care of yourself. Rest if able, eat good food, hug your babies. Reading your post I suddenly felt like my Ada (4yrs old) and truly understanding her desire to sometimes wanting to be a " Fairy Godmother " . To be able to wave my wand and make everything all better. To restore Asenath to a healthy child, to remove your worry and heart ache..., all I can do is shower you and your family in love and prayers. Please when able, keep us informed. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Guest guest
I am so sorry! I was hoping they would not find this. I wish I could do more or say more. Sam is also on Vasotec but for his BP. it has been a relatively effective medication for that. I assume they are using it to dilate her blood vessels? I hope the docs come up with some answers and a treatment plan for you. Anne
