Yea, My daughter is tall, but very very thin. In fact, when she broke

her humerous, they just put it in the sling, cause they can't cast it. So, for

2 weeks she was in terrible pain, (we had to buy a recliner cause she couldn't

even lay down), then she woke up one morning, and there was a big bump on the

front of her arm. I took her in, and the break, instead of healing, moved

further out of place, resulting in her having to have surgery to pin it.

I wish they would have just pinned it in the first place. Especially when they

knew how poorly fitting the sling was.

It hurt her so bad, they could barely get the sling on, and the damn nurse at

the er just threw it down and said , " well, I give up! "

She was gonna let her go without even the sling!

Thank goodness we were in the hallway, and everyone saw that. So, another nurse

came over and helped her. But it still didn't fit right. Her ortho the next

day put all the ace bandages around her.

But, that wasn't even good enough.

It was a terrible injury. It was her proximal humerous, right below the ball.

Re: Damb Shoulder - Slings

I completely agree with you about it being difficult to get a

proper fit in the immobilaser slings. I have one for when my shoulder

dislocates and find i can still move my arm and the sling ends up

slipping down too as I'm only tiny - I'm 5ft, weigh 38kg, have a

20inch waist and you could play the xylophone on my ribs! (I have

terrible trouble keeping weight and muscle tone, but that's another

issue)

Sharon, I'm hoping to get something more subsyntial and immobilsing

form my OS when I see him next as I'm still subluxing in the current

one. You might be as well asking your GP or a PT about a more

immobilising splint such as the ones Rhea has been looking into for

her shoulder. I'll let you know if Mac has any suggestions for mine

though too.

An MRI might not be a bad idea of it still giving you trouble after

the weekend Darl. I actually have my shoulder MRI on Tuesday (they

couldn't do an arthrogram because of my Iondine allergy) so I'm

keeping everything crossed thta by some miracle he'll have some idea

of how to stabilse it when I see him too. Here's hoping!

Take care and know I'm thinking of you and cringing at how painful

these shoulders of ours can be!

Love and hugs...Jo
