Guest guest
Hi Laurie, Hmmm...I have heard of the MCT oil. Medium chain tryglycerides I think, right? I will have to add that question to my list to take to Dr Korson in a few weeks. He already mentioned he wanted to test my essential fatty acids next time. Do you use it? Have people seen much difference using it? Thanks Laurie, Adam :-) > Adam > > You might want to ask your doctor about trying MCT oil. It is a medium chain > oil which is easier to digest by many. Guest guest
Adam I use to use it, along with my son, when we had a different diagnosis - long story. Since the diagnosis was wrong, it didn't do any good. I do know those who find it an essential part of their diet. laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Mon, 20 Sep 2004 11:26:26 -0000 > To: > Subject: Re: Alice..MCT oil > > Hi Laurie, > > Hmmm...I have heard of the MCT oil. Guest guest
Hi Adam, I've had MCT oil and know quite a few other patients who have also tried it. They were all patients with defects in long- chain fatty acids and did not get any benefit from it. There is another oil that is now in trial for various fatty acid oxidation defects. It is called triheptanion and was developed by Dr. Roe, an expert in FODs. The FOD site seems to be down at the moment or I would send you a link to a full-length article on triheptanion. When I had MCT oil, the assumption was that my defect was confined to long-chains, which, as it turns out, it wasn't, and MCT oil made my symptoms much worse.
